Job Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Summer Camp Activity Specialist / Youth Development Specialist to join our team. This role is responsible for planning, leading, and supervising engaging activities for campers, while fostering a positive, inclusive environment that promotes youth development, teamwork, and personal growth. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children and teens, has strong leadership skills, and brings creativity and energy to a variety of camp programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, organize, and facilitate age-appropriate activities such as sports, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, team-building exercises, or specialized programs (e.g., STEM, music, drama) based on camp focus and camper interests.
- Lead small and large group activities, ensuring camper safety, participation, and enjoyment.
- Supervise campers (ages 6-14) and maintain a safe, supportive, and fun environment at all times.
- Collaborate with camp staff to develop weekly schedules, themes, and special events.
- Mentor and guide campers in developing life skills such as communication, problem-solving, leadership, and resilience.
- Adapt activities to accommodate diverse abilities, interests, and needs, promoting inclusivity.
- Monitor camper behavior, enforce camp rules, and address conflicts or concerns in a positive and constructive manner.
- Maintain and organize equipment, supplies, and activity areas, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.
- Provide support during camp-wide events, such as talent shows, campfires, or field trips.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and staff to ensure a cohesive and enjoyable camp experience.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children or teens in a camp, school, recreational, or youth development setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and inspire young people.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for developing fun, educational, and engaging activities.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain high energy throughout the day.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
- Background check clearance required.
