JOB OBJECTIVE: Assist the Director of Nursing with the development and maintenance of nursing service objectives, standards, policies, procedures; help implement these programs, policies and procedures; and administer specific assigned areas of responsibility, including quality assurance, staff development, recruitment, hiring, orientation and payroll.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/DUTIES:
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Registered nurse license in good standing with State Board of Nursing in the state of North Carolina.
- Previous experience as a shift charge nurse in a long-term care facility.
- Previous supervisory and administrative experience in a geriatric long-term care setting preferred.
- Must be able to use the English language to satisfy the communications and record keeping requirements involved in the performance of this job position with or without reasonable accommodation,
- Must maintain neat, well-groomed appearance adhering to dress code of the facility.
- Must satisfy all established licensing and certification requirements applicable to this job position.
- Must be able to safely perform all essential job functions without harm to self or others with or without reasonable accommodation,
- Must comply with facility's drug testing and substance abuse program and policies.
Supervision (Given and Received):
Given: Acts as Director in Director's absence. Received: Supervised by Director of Nursing.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Helps establish nursing services philosophy and objectives.
- Helps to develop and maintain nursing service goals, standards of nursing practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, and written job descriptions for each category of nursing personnel.
- Implements federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to nursing services.
- Participates in establishing and maintaining management information systems to facilitate administration of the facility' s nursing department.
- Directs the orientation of new employees through a plan of scheduled meetings that introduces new staff to programs, policies, procedures, and expectations of the facility.
- Helps develop and directs the facility training programs designed to meet the educational and staff development needs of nursing staff, specifically nursing assistants. (See job function of Director of Staff Development).
- Functions as the Quality Assessment and Assurance Coordinator. (See job functions for this job position).
- Monitors policies and procedures for nursing services and recommends changes as needed to keep policy manuals current.
- Prepares and monitors work schedules for nursing staff, helping ensure nursing staff are on duty to provide needed services.
- Completes bi-weekly payroll for nursing staff and submits to Business Manager according to established schedule.
- Reports staffing and/or payroll problems to Director of Nursing.
- Makes rounds in the nursing/assisted living units to monitor resident care and needs.
- Responds to emergency calls from residents in apartments and garden homes during tour of duty, and appropriately addresses the existing needs and circumstances.
- Maintains a knowledge of licensing and certification regulations, monitors changes in rules and regulations, and assists Director of Nursing in the implementation of federal, state, and county regulations through staff.
- Acts as Director of Nursing in the Director's absence.
- Works tactfully and cooperatively with resident, families, visitors, and other staff throughout the facility.
- Abides by department policies, practices, and standards of care.
- Properly uses and cares for equipment and supplies.
