Job Summary:
The Construction Laborer/Water Truck Driver (Combination Man) position utilizes his/her Class A CDL license while using an Asphalt Water Wagon, Flatbed, and/or Flatbed w/ Trailer. This position performs general laborer duties on paving crews in a safe, efficient and proper manner to achieve a quality finished product. This position spends on average 10% of his/her time using a commercial motor vehicle and 90% of his/her time performing field crew work.
Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):
- Transports heavy equipment or necessary materials to and from the job site
- Loads, unloads, and cleans equipment and materials as directed
- Performs physical labor shoveling, raking, luting, lifting and moving equipment
- Performs traffic control (flagging) duties as required
- Places and picks up traffic control materials (cones, barrels, etc.) as needed
- Completes daily pre/post-trip inspection checklist
- Maintains all safety standards
- *Perform other duties, as assigned
Requirements:
Experience:
- Must have or be willing & able to get and maintain a valid Class A CDL driver's license
- Manual transmission CDL capability required
- Tanker Endorsement on license or ability to add this endorsement post-offer
- Hazmat Endorsement on license or ability to add this endorsement post-offer
- Previous hands-on construction experience is preferred, with some knowledge of heavy highway work.
- Member of or willing to join local Laborers and Teamsters Unions.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and long hours/extensive overtime (sunrise to sunset) when necessary (often with little or no notice)
- Must have reliable transportation with the ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites up to a 70-mile radius from our office (at the employee's expense)
- Must be willing to abide by our Drug Free & Alcohol-Free Workplace policies
- Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons and diverse weather conditions (including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc.)
- Must have exceptional attendance, punctuality, dependability, reliability, and work ethic (including performance record with other/prior employers)
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for safety as required
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to pick up on procedures quickly
- Must be a Team Player
- Must be able to work independently, without continuous supervision/oversight
