Basic Function
The Development & Test Engineer will leverage strong mechanical and electrical skills as a Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineer. This Engineer will build and test prototypes and equipment, dedicated to ultra-high vacuum. This role requires significant time on the production floor, along with data acquisition, analysis, test plan development, and creating Test Reports to accelerate New Product Development releases.

The Development & Test Engineer will leverage strong mechanical and electrical skills as a Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineer. This Engineer will build and test prototypes and equipment, dedicated to ultra-high vacuum. This role requires significant time on the production floor, along with data acquisition, analysis, test plan development, and creating Test Reports to accelerate New Product Development releases.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Build, validate, test prototypes and evaluation units.
- Test, modify, and repair precision flow/pressure control equipment.
- Collaborate with Product Marketing to define product performance requirements & manage test schedules.
- Perform DVT by collaborating with Test Engineers, Failure Analysis, Service, and Customers.
- Write & execute test plans.
- Perform/automate data analysis & program using Excel, LabVIEW, VBA, or PowerBI.
- Create professional PowerPoints (Data Packs, 8Ds) and Test Reports for internal and customer use.
- Assist operations with equipment setup, validation, and troubleshooting during production.
- Read/interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs (required).
- Support Engineering Change Notices and safety/quality improvement initiatives.
- Work independently and cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Quality.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including cleanroom PPE requirements.
- BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering (MS a plus).
- 5-15 years’ experience in high-precision mechanical/electrical diagnostics, OEM equipment, or product development. New graduates may be considered with a strong background.
- Associate’s degree holders in ME/EE fields with 3 years’ relevant experience may be considered.
- Preferred experience: OEM machinery, high/ultra-high vacuum systems, semiconductor manufacturing / instrumentation, process control devices (e.g., Mass Flow Controllers), or piping/manifold design.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Familiarity with electrical diagnostics, calibration, and analog/digital protocols (e.g., RS485, EtherCAT).
- Experienced using Electrical measuring tools such as DMM, Oscilloscope, and LCR meters.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for prototype assembly/modification.
- Technical writing, data analysis, and multi-disciplinary teamwork skills.
- Plus: GD&T knowledge, Solidworks/AutoCAD, Solidworks certifications, PDM (Teamcenter), flow analysis (COMSOL/Ansys), or standards experience (ASME, SEMI, UL).
- Ability to stand or sit at equipment for extended periods, in clean rooms with required PPE.
