Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach
Brooks School provides a co-educational, college preparatory program for 350 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12. Located in North Andover, MA, Brooks offers both a challenging academic curriculum, and an exceptional athletic program in a close-knit community.
The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the program. This includes developing and mentoring athletes on and off the field, supervising daily practices, contributing technical and tactical instruction, attending all scheduled games, home and away, and fostering a healthy team environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assume assistant coaching responsibilities as designated by head coach Monday through Saturday from late March through May. Practices are typically between 3:45 – 5:30 PM, with games Wednesday and Saturdays.
- Communicate and collaborate daily with head coach in all aspects of player development both on and off the field.
- Encourage and motivate students individually, and as a team by providing positive and supportive environment.
- Assist the Head Coach with the administration of practices and training sessions.
- Attend all home and away games and help with game day responsibilities.
- Possess and maintain a coaching philosophy that is in accordance with the mission of Brooks School and the Independent School League.
- Ensure the safety of student-athletes at all times and attend to first aid/CPR/AED requirements.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- A positive outlook with enthusiasm for the sport of baseball.
- Experience coaching at the high school or college level and/or a successful personal background in competitive baseball.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with secondary school students.
- A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept.
- Ability to pitch batting practice and/or ability to hit ground balls and fly balls.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to drive 13 passenger school vans.
- Pass background check and other references, as needed.
