Associate Java Developer
Location: Hybrid in Charlotte, NC (3 days in office/week)
1-year contract with opportunity for extension or full-time conversion
W-2 only (cannot accommodate Corp-to-Corp or 1099)

Brooksource is searching for an Associate Java Developer to join our Fortune 500 Energy & Utilities client in Charlotte, NC. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills and experience through education and/or 1-3 years work experience in Java development. They must have the aptitude and enthusiasm to work in an agile environment to deliver evolving solutions over time using agile continuous development techniques. The candidate is experienced in Java development, JavaScript, Oracle SQL scripting, writing test scripts, and Bitbucket or GitHub software version control. Experience in AWS and/or Cloud environments is desired but not required.
This is an associate-level position with the successful candidate working on a team with more experienced developers. The ideal candidate is a strong team player motivated to learn a complex system, our client s Work Management & Asset Management system (Maximo), and contribute by delivering enhancements and new functionality to this system. They should be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communications skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and build software solutions using agile/XP/TDD.
Program well-designed, efficient code with broad supervision.
Clearly communicate progress and identify blocking issues.
Participate in paired programming and code reviews with seniors to expand knowledge and understanding of software engineering.
Complete independent research to refine best practices and present work to peers.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Experience building software solutions both independently and as part of a team (could be through independent projects, internships, advanced education).
1-3 years previous experience in software development required (Either 3 years of experience specifically in software development or one year experience in software development in combination with 2 years alternative experience in a related field). Ideally has a portfolio of work code samples, etc.
Self-sufficient in JAVA. Able to pick up a new language and implement a semi-stable, non-complex solution independently.
Capabilities in JavaScript, Oracle SQL scripting, writing test scripts, and Bitbucket or GitHub software version control. Experience in AWS and/or Cloud environments is desired but not required.
Able to navigate and operate IDEs efficiently.
Have understanding, though possibly limited exposure, to APIs.
Is familiar with several frameworks for development have previous experience working with multiple frameworks and know the common, well-known ones in their language stack.
Understanding of, and some exposure to working with, databases. Should understand DB basic design techniques.
A basic understanding of cyber security principles such as authentication, authorization, and encryption. Ability to leverage common security libraries applicable to their language stack.
