Job Summary
The ideal candidate will be energetic, thoughtful, team-oriented, and organized, with a demonstrated interest in working with students, parents, families, faculty, staff, and college representatives. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment to help guide students in their college preparation and application process.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively assist the Director of College Guidance in the management of the college guidance department and all programs associated with college preparation.
- Meet with students and parents, individually and in group settings, to provide a supportive and informative environment to learn about the college admissions process and college preparation opportunities.
- Knowledge of each student’s talents and needs when recommending colleges and appropriate action steps. Have experience advising students who have special talents, including fine/performing arts, STEM, athletes, etc.
- Honor diversity and have a positive influence on students, parents, families, as well as faculty and staff.
- Assist in course selection to ensure all students demonstrate the rigor and strength of their abilities in line with their collegiate aspirations.
- Possess the ability to develop strong relationships with students to assist in creating an action plan to support their career interests, abilities, and aptitudes.
- Disseminate standardized testing and college financial aid, and scholarship information to students, parents, and families.
- Write compelling and personal recommendation letters for students pursuing college admission, scholarships, and summer programs.
- Coordinate the timely submission of all documents to colleges through Scoir.
- Facilitate and conduct appropriate grade-level classroom workshops for 9th through 12th grade students.
- Facilitate and conduct grade-specific individual college advising meetings for 11th and 12th-grade students.
- Coordinate and execute college advising events, including the college admission nights, the college financial aid and scholarship night, rep visits, and the college fair.
- Facilitate training for faculty involved in the college preparation process.
- Keep current on issues and trends in college admission, higher education, and standardized testing.
- Assist with the publication of the school profile and update college advising content on the school website.
- Attend college-sponsored events and fly-ins to strengthen and build collaborative partnerships with college admission representatives and gain expertise in various colleges.
- Attend professional conferences annually and counselor workshops to engage in professional development.
Maintain membership with the National Association of College Admission Counselors and the Southern Association of College Admission Counselors.
Key Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree required/Master’s Degree preferred, along with 5 years of experience as a college advisor/counselor.

- Demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
- Respond patiently, effectively, and promptly when working with students, parents, and families.
- Have a strong knowledge of colleges, their academic programs, and admission requirements.
- Possesses strong public speaking skills and the desire to lead college advising events for the school community.
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Finalsite) as well as Scoir, Blackbaud, NCAA Eligibility Center, Slate.org, and Canvas.
- Knowledge of the Georgia HOPE Scholarship, NCAA eligibility, AP Scholar Recognition, National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and College Board National Recognition Programs.
Previous experience working with students, parents, and families from diverse backgrounds.
Physical Requirements
May be required to perform extensive work on a computer.
