Overview

Evaluate and provide appropriate occupational therapy services to assigned children. Participatein planning meetings in terms of children’s needs; communicate appropriately to families andother professional staff of assigned children

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

 

STANDARD 1 Professional Duties:

A. Implements activities therapy goals for facilitation of motor control and developmental skills including upper extremity functioning, fine motor development and sensor-motor/perceptual skills as indicated on assigned children’s IEP’s and IFSP’s.B. Assesses student needs through a variety of formal and informal measures.C. Develops and implements appropriate strategies for intervention as per child’s IEP, or IFSP.D. Completes and maintains all required paperwork in an appropriate and timely manner.E. Organizes and completes written material in a concise and timely manner.F. Participates in conferences, including parent and meetings, as assigned.G. Maintains appropriate professional standards in interactions with families.H. Demonstrates the abilities to be an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.I. Maintains a healthy, safe and attractive environment.

STANDARD 2 Therapy Environment Management:

A. Responsible for health and safety of children during therapy sessions.B. Responsible for safety of all children during school day.STANDARD 3 Professional BehaviorA. Conducts self at all times in a professional manner appropriate to preschool special educationB. Adheres to specific Brookville Center for Children’s Services Program policies and procedures.C. Performs other related duties as assigned.

STANDARD 4 Professional Development:

A. Participates in program required in-services and acts in an appropriate manner.B. Participates in activities and seeks support to enhance knowledge in areas pertinent to children in assigned class and program.C. Attends and participates in supervision and implements recommendations appropriately.

STANDARD 5 Adheres to general policies of the organization/regulators including:

A. Corporate Compliance, Code of Ethical Conduct.B. Emergency/disaster preparedness protocols.C. Fire/Safety prevention protocols.D. Departmental in-service education program requirementsE. Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc.)F. Quality Improvement activitiesG. Job related self-development education activities

STANDARD 6 Performs other related duties, as required. Addresses the special needs of each age group served, child, adolescent, adult and older adult, and assists in making reasonable accommodations for the hearing impaired, physically challenged or any other child that may enter the facility.

A. Demonstrates understanding of the needs of children and visitors for each specific age group.B. Addresses safety and psychological needs of the special age groups, as appropriate, in the performance of work activities.C. Addresses the needs of special groups, hearing impaired, physically challenged and various issues relating to the program and facility.D. Maintains child and family confidentiality.E. Is consistently courteous and considerate, in person and on the telephone, in interactions with children and others such as family, visitors, vendors, and other employees.F. Exhibits the “At Your Service” attitude, i.e., smiles, uses positive eye contact, is friendly, open and approachable.G. Responds quickly to child(ren) and/or parent/guardian’s request, refers to appropriate member of the care team, if necessary, and informs supervisor of actions taken.H. Promotes positive co-worker relationships, teamwork and cooperation. Works collaboratively and is respectful of others.I. Takes individual responsibility for providing outstanding Service Quality.

STANDARD 7: Cultural Competencies

A.Demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people acrosscultures, ranges of disability, genders, ethnicity and races.B.Demonstrate the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors to create aninclusive, equitable and welcoming environment.C.Demonstrate the ability to successfully deliver culturally responsive services to students and families.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Basic Anatomy, Neuromotor Development and Developmental Psychology as normally acquiredthrough a completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Licensure and current registration as an Occupational Therapist by the NYS Department of Education, minimum (1) year responsiblerelated work experience working to ensure a working knowledge of assessment and treatment through activitiestherapy in an educational setting.

Physical aspects may include but are not limited to lifting and transferring of a child/student.
