What are the responsibilities and job description for the Saturday Counselor position at Brookville Center for Children’s Services?
Overview
Assists Lead Counselor to ensure children have structured activities planned and that activities are age and ability appropriate. Assists in being responsible for the well being and safety of the children.
We currently offer two Saturday recreation programs – one with a focus on recreation and the other with a focus on social skills for children with autism. All programs include a wide range of skill enhancement through music, arts and crafts, cooking, movement dance and indoor and outdoor play. Swimming in the outdoor pool is available during the summer months.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the organization of assigned group
- Must participate in swim activities
- Ensures assigned group attends all special area scheduled activities
- Brings children to Nurses office for medication at required time
- Maintain behavior management in homeroom and special areas
- Maintain safe environment for the children and account for their whereabouts at all times
- Create homeroom activities in the event of special area cancellation and/or when no special activity is scheduled
- Maintain open dialogue with parents, offering support and encouragement
- Ensure that each child participates in an enjoyable and appropriate experience throughout the day
- Reports all incidents to the Nurse and Program Coordinator or designee
- Performs additional related responsibilities as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Prior experience working with children with developmental disabilities.
Physical aspects may include but are not limited to lifting and transferring of a child/adult.
