What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Needs Residential House Parent/Caregiver position at Brookwood in Georgetown?
SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to oversee the day-to-day activities of the Men;s home by providing a safe, secure and caring environment for our Citizens. The candidate is responsible for training the Residential Assistant and interns, when applicable, and any residential home volunteers, to meet the “home programming” goals for daily living activities and the social and vocational needs of the Citizens. The Home Parent interfaces with other departments, including Administration, Development, and the Work Program and interacts with Residential staff members in order to create a true sense of community and dignity for our residential Citizens.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Manages the day-to-day activities of the Men's home Citizens assigned to their care. These activities include guidance and support with meal preparation, home maintenance, socialization, skill development, and medical treatment regiments.
2. Maintain an annual care plan for each Citizen or emergency residential Citizen that is approved by their family or guardian and Director of Residential. These plans will be implemented and reviewed annually or as needed by the residential Citizen’s care team.
3. Maintains the business records for the Men's Home including resident bank accounts, receipts for purchases, and supplies purchased. The Men's Home Village House Parent is responsible for reconciling the financial account maintained for the Village and each Citizen monthly.
4. Plans meals, daily snacks and diets for the Citizens aligned to HHSC standards and medical directives; shops as needed to buy groceries and supplies for the home to ensure adequate inventories of food and paper supplies are on hand to meet the needs of the home. Prepares a monthly meal plan for all meals and snacks.
5. Maintains an ongoing relationship with family and guardians through regular contact to report activities, issues or respond to questions related to their health and well-being.
6. Plans and participates in community life events, holiday celebrations, and fund-raising activities. House Parent accompanies residential Citizens on planned activities, both on and off campus, including leisure time activities, errands, and special events. Contributes to a campus-wide monthly activities calendar.
7. Attends all necessary team meetings, check-ins with the Director of Residential, and other meetings required to perform the duties of the job.
8. Works safely and maintains a vigilant presence for the safety and well-being of the residential Citizens and staff . Immediately corrects unsafe conditions in the Village. Conducts regular safety checks, temperature checks, and fire drills with the Citizens.
9. Delegates and participates in managing the cleanliness of the Citizen Homes and and Clubhouse including but not limited to cleaning bathrooms, kitchen and common areas daily. Working with Citizens to clean their individual rooms and maintain clean laundry.
10. Maintain a weekly chore list for Citizens to ensure a well-run residence. Teach Citizens to take ownership of assigned tasks and chores. Participates in bi-weekly deep cleanings of citizen Homes and clubhouse, to include thoroughly cleaning bathroom, floors, windows, fixtures, etc.
11. If a Citizen is sick or unable to attend work at BiG, the House Parent is responsible for notifying the nurse on call and transporting the Citizen to their care. Parents will be contacted by the nurse on call if their intervention or assistance is required.
12. Manage volunteers assigned to the Men's Home. Assign appropriate activities to the volunteers.
13. Drive and Maintain the vehicles assigned to the residential property.
