JOB SUMMARY
Responsible within assigned authority to evaluate, classify and price new and renewal church and related
ministry business consistent with company established standards for growth and profitability. Provide
training to underwriters and assistant underwriters primarily on accounts that are of medium to large size
and/or moderate to high complexity. Provide assistance as needed to agents in resolving issues with
existing policies and/or answer questions with respect to coverage existence or availability.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Evaluate, classify and price new and renewal church and related ministry accounts that are of
medium to large size and/or moderate to high complexity in order to achieve company growth and
profitability goals. - Appropriately document all files so that other underwriters, department and company
management, and external auditors can identify and understand action taken with respect to
exposures, thought process, policy issuance and pricing. - Provide training to underwriters and assistant underwriters or others in the underwriting
department. - Participate in agency visits and/or meet with a prospects and insureds.
- Work with Legal in developing manuscript and/or new coverage forms to address current and
prospective policyholder needs. - Arrange reinsurance as needed in accordance with the company’s retention, catastrophe,
concentration, and treaty/facultative arrangements. - Participate and provide input in regularly scheduled departmental or regional meetings involving
collective decision making. - Report any marketplace, customer trends, or state specific underwriting requirements that may
positively or negatively impact the company and/or its target niche, and contribute to development
of corresponding underwriting guidelines in the Underwriting Resource Center. - Develop and maintain positive working relationships with agents, regional sales managers and
other corporate departments. - Order risk control inspections as needed. Present agents with risk control guidelines when
hazardous activities are identified and recommend available risk management services to achieve
increased profitability. - Contribute to the development/maintenance of the Underwriting Resource Center.
- Complete other projects as assigned.

- Must have demonstrated proficiency in using computers and business software applications.
- Must have a thorough understanding of Property and Casualty insurance rating systems,
underwriting principles, practices, reinsurance concepts, and policy coverage forms. - Must be able to analyze various sources of information and make sound decisions relative to
policy pricing and coverage that will lead to profitable business being acquired by the company. - Must be able to make independent decisions.
- Must have strong analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to handle difficult situations in a diplomatic manner and use negotiation skills
in the resolution of underwriting and agency differences. - Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate complex concepts both orally and in
writing. - Must be able to develop creative solutions to problems and be comfortable working in a dynamic
environment. - Must possess strong interpersonal skills and present a positive and professional image of the
company. - Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department
staff members.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
List Degree Requirement, Years' Experience, and Certifications
Education and/or Experience
- Must have a Bachelor's degree.
- Must have three to five years underwriting experience.
- AU, CPCU, CIC or other relevant insurance related coursework is desired.
- Five or more years of relevant Property and Casualty underwriting or insurance related
experience is desired.
