Job description
The Emergency Medical Dispatcher will be responsible for receiving and processing non-911 medical transportation (Stretcher, and BLS) requests from healthcare facilities, patients, and vendors. The dispatcher will coordinate with drivers and other dispatchers to ensure timely and efficient transportation services.
Requirements:
- Current certification as an EMD or ETC meeting the standards of the National Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatch or current EMT in the State of California.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation and pre-employment medical examination, which includes drug and alcohol screening.
- Must be available to work all shifts, including but not limited to day/night, weekends, holidays and mandatory overtime as needed and able to perform role efficiently and consistently during the shift.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit for an extended period of time.
- Requires frequent repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, reaching and grasping.
- Must be able to hear and communicate clearly to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
- Adequate vision required to be able to read information from printed sources and computer screens.
Job Duties:
- Receive calls and gather necessary information from callers.
- Determine the nature and location of the request.
- Dispatch appropriate personnel to the scene.
- Provide instructions to callers and personnel.
- Monitor and track the status of ongoing calls.
- Coordinate communication between drivers and other agencies as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and actions taken.
Experience:
- Previous experience in dispatching preferred.
- Strong conflict management skills to handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to clearly and concisely communicate with callers and personnel.
- Proficiency in using dispatching systems and GPS technology to accurately locate and direct personnel.
- Ability to type quickly and accurately while simultaneously listening to callers
- Experience with phone triage or medical dispatching is a plus.
This position requires individuals who can remain calm under pressure, think quickly on their feet, and effectively communicate with callers. The ability to analyze situations, make quick decisions, and provide clear instructions.
