Job Profile Summary
The purpose of the job is to serve as a first responder who provides emergency and non-emergency public safety services to the Broward College community. Responsible for fostering a safe and secure environment and acting as a deterrent to crime and unsafe behaviors through a variety of proactive patrol techniques / strategies and crime prevention / awareness measures. Responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and college policies and procedures. Investigates, responds to, and documents crimes, disturbances, and other public safety-related incidents occurring at Broward College.
Performs related work as directed.
The Public Safety Officer must be able to successfully complete the Public Safety Academy when scheduled to attend, usually within the first six months of their initial hire date as a Public Safety Officer.
The Public Safety Officer must certify in the use of and carry any and all intermediate weapons and other public safety equipment required by the College within the first six months of their initial hire date as a Public Safety Officer.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans' Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.
