Job Profile SummaryThe Senior Instructional Designer provides leadership, expertise and creativity to support the development and delivery of online and blended courses and programs. In this role, this person works as an online pedagogy consultant for college faculty aspiring to develop online learning courses and programs. This person also supervises e-learning faculty associates who are providing direct support. This person has a crucial role in delivering professional development, promoting online learning, assessing online and blended courses, and improving and ensuring the quality of online course development and delivery to improve resulting student success.Minimum EducationBachelor's Degree in an academic discipline, Instructional Technology, Education, Educational Technology or related field required; Master's Degree preferred.Minimum Experience / TrainingSix or more years of experience as an Instructional Designer working in higher education, preferably public higher education, in a role directly related to college-credit online learning, and who has developed and delivered instructional design professional development programs for higher education faculty.Experience in outcomes assessment, instruction, and curriculum development, Learning Management Systems software, Web 2.0 technologies and teaching strategies, as evidenced by the presentation of a portfolio demonstrating the use of these tools in online courses, and training resources strongly preferred.Experience in the development and delivery of instructional design professional development programs for higher education faculty colleagues preferred.Essential FunctionsWeekly - 25% : Faculty Support / Consultation in Instructional and Learning Technologies : Provides campus leadership for all instructional design issues and tasks and provides instructional design services for all faculty, programs and departments.Guides faculty in the design or redesign and development of course objectives, course content, course assessments, instructional strategies and activities for courses offered in various delivery formats including e-learning.Helps faculty understand and learn, through different professional development opportunities and group or one-on-one consultation, how new instructional strategies can be used to achieve learning outcomes, and how courses and learning can be more interactive and engaging, particularly in the online environment.Helps faculty understand how the intellectual property of an e-learning course is developed as well as any copyright issues involved during the online course development process.Prepares proposals for internal and external funding of Instructional Technology initiatives and projects.Supports faculty in the development of course guides, syllabi, instructional media assets, and learning materials that meet quality assurance standards in accordance with regional accreditation criteria and programmatic accreditation standards.Supports the design, development, annual review, and revision of course guides, assessment strategies, and curriculum maps.Weekly -30% : Course Development : Provides leadership in designing and developing blended and online programs and courses on campus in ways to ensure student success in these courses.Conducts formal Quality Matters course reviews.Works with Associate Deans to evaluate completed online courses.Provides instructional design support to faculty involved in developing and / or revising e-learning programs and courses.Coordinates with Senior Director of Instructional Design and all Instructional Technology staff to ensure timely completion of 70-80 course development projects as well as the quality of developed courses.Researches and disseminates best practices in e-learning to BC faculty.Prepares and publishes Faculty Showcase website and the Instructional Technology eLearning Newsletter each semester.Weekly -25% : Professional Development : Designs, develops, and manages a comprehensive professional development program for faculty integrating technologies and sound instructional pedagogies in the online environment.Supervises and coordinates professional development workshops for faculty who are developing and teaching web-enhanced, blended, and fully online courses.Leads in the ongoing revision and improvement of professional development workshops.Weekly -10% : Faculty Supervision / Leadership : Develops and monitors project schedules.Leads and manages various e-learning initiatives and blended / online course development projects.Assigns tasks and responsibilities, and supervises approximately 5-10 Faculty e-Learning Associates.Oversees the accomplishment of e-learning tasks and course development projects assigned to e-Associates and designated faculty.Participates in assessment of courses, ensuring alignment with BC and Quality Matters standards, Federal copyright guidelines, and regional accreditation requirements.Evaluates previously designed courses and programs to assess program success and provide instructor guidance.Weekly -10% : Special Projects : Serves as the main campus contact or lead expert on topics such as social-networking strategies and open educational resources such as open textbooks.Orange Grove as a learning repository, copyright issues, and special media or software evaluation.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesDemonstrated knowledge of multimedia instructional technologies, synchronous and asynchronous online education, including learning management systems, learning object repository tools and social networking applications.Knowledge of instructional design and assessment methodologies.Demonstrated ability to design, create and deliver digital content and instructional materials using appropriate development tools, and to train and lead faculty in these endeavors.Knowledge of the Quality Matters or equivalent quality assurance course development process.Ability to manage multiple priorities.Possess solid project management experience.Possess strong written and oral communication skills.Models inclusive excellence through specific actions that
