Develops, leads and assists with educational nature programs to foster the appreciation and protection of nature.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Preferences:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preference will be given to candidates with reptile care experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Researches and develops community partnerships; meets with organizations and develops projects unique to each group while organizing, implementing and overseeing each project and identifying future projects to ensure a lasting partnership.
Schedules, supervises, directs and evaluates staff; hires, disciplines, rates, and interviews potential candidates, and completes paperwork.
Conducts environmental educational activities; develops and conducts nature programs and conducts talks and guided hikes for the general public, schools and private organizations.
Handles a variety of questions relating to environmental issues, volunteering, nature-related events, nature programming and community outreach for various parks/natural area sites.
Develops new revenue-generating nature-related programming by determining which types of programs are the most relevant, have the highest educational qualities, and can be presented in an engaging, interesting and understandable way for all age groups.
Coordinates and oversees various park projects with staff and volunteer groups (of potentially large numbers) for habitat rehabilitation and nature program purposes.
Performs animal care maintenance, such as cleaning, feeding, watering and enrichment; oversees and trains volunteers and staff for animal care maintenance detail; assigns other various tasks to volunteers and staff workers.
Performs front desk reception duties; creates, monitors and reviews animal care logbook and daily checklists; develops and requests marketing materials; writes work orders, monthly/quarterly/annual reports, event reports, and resource management plans.
Performs related work as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office equipment or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife.
