The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program Project Coordinator to support resilience initiatives within the Resilient Environment Department and in direct report to the County’s Chief Resilience Officer. The successful candidate will support diverse efforts furthering internal and countywide climate adaptation and mitigation priorities ranging from flood and heat mitigation to clean energy and energy efficiency initiatives, from policy and planning to community outreach and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities will include project management, support for economic resilience initiatives, independent research, synthesis and presentation of technical information, preparation of grant proposals and agency reports, support in staffing work groups and committees, and services as a community liaison.
General Description
This is a professional level technical position responsible for advancing resilience initiatives in Broward County. Position responsibilities include the research and synthesis of technical information to support policy and planning decisions and engagement with internal and external stakeholders. The Program Project Coordinator provides tracking, compiling, and reporting of information relating to diverse climate impacts affecting Broward communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in data analysis and interpretation, knowledge of climate risk and finance, and experience with project costing and benefit-cost determinations. The preferred candidate will be well-versed in the use of technology, with abilities in GIS, coding, and platforms for data visualization. The candidate should have working knowledge of the south Florida landscape and hydrogeology, be conversant in climate science, trends and predictions, and have familiarity with climate science data sources and references relevant to south Florida. The candidate should have knowledge of standard vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning techniques, and strategies most relevant to urban planning and infrastructure adaptation in south Florida. Knowledge and experience in furthering energy initiatives as part of a community resilience strategy is also beneficial. This position requires excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, experience with PowerPoint, and strong presentation skills. Candidates should be highly motivated and creative, enjoy working as a team, and have superior organizational skills. Responsibilities include contracts and grants management, technical review and input, participation in technical work groups and committees, organizational policy and planning support. Work is reviewed through regular meetings, reports and assignments.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental sciences, chemistry, geology, hydrology, biology, ecology, engineering, economics, or closely related field.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Requires two (2) years in environmental planning, natural resource protection, or closely related experience to area of assignment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Assists in the coordination, monitoring, and reporting on resilience initiatives on county-wide and agency-wide basis.
- Aids in the management of consultant services and contract deliverables to implementation of the County-wide Risk Assessment and Resilience Plan and Net Zero initiatives.
- Proposes policies, procedures, guidelines and priorities to meet established goals related to the County’s resilience planning and investment needs.
- Manages projects including planning, scheduling and coordination of project activities.
- Performs and reports on analyses of climate conditions and impacts as part of event and future conditions planning, analyzes complex data sets, and makes recommendations to support monitoring, communications, and investments.
- Fosters relationships and partnerships with community stakeholders through event engagement, presentations, workshops, and outreach.
- Researches, identifies, and pursues funding opportunities and partnerships.
- Manages grant funding and contract agreements.
- Researches and provides project costing and support for funding options.
- Produces technical memos, white papers, talk points and presentations.
- Provides legislative and regulatory support, with review and preparation of comment pertaining to proposed policies and rules at local, state, and federal levels.
- Provides support in the organization of task force meetings, roundtable, summits, and workshops.
- Represents the County and presents at stakeholder meetings, technical workshops and/or conferences related to local/regional climate and resilience considerations.
- Performs additional related work, as assigned.
