THIS JOB ANNOUNCEMENT WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF APPLICANTIONS ARE RECEIVED AND MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME.The Broward County Public Works Department, Facilities Management Division, provides program and administrative management of the maintenance and repairs, roads and grounds, utilities, minor renovations and capital maintenance, cleaning, paid parking, security and real property management of all County facilities and properties.
The Division seeks an experienced Security Guard who is customer-service oriented, and will patrol on foot and by vehicle; use a guard tour system to protect property against possible loss/damage from theft, trespassing, fire, vandalism or other hazards; screen visitors/employees as they enter Broward County facilities utilizing x-ray machines and walk-through/hand-held detectors; monitor integrated access control and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems; process employee identification badges; and operate an integrated security access control and intrusion detection system. Monitors fire alarm systems. Completes security logs and event reports with accuracy. Ideal candidate should be comfortable working and multi-tasking in a diverse, fast paced environment.
NOTICE: In accordance with Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)/Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) security policies, the FBI/FDLE Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Access Security Policy requires that all criminal justice agencies (including Broward Sheriff's Office, State Attorney's Office, and Medical Examiner's Office) have documentation of enhanced background screening on file for all personnel who may conduct any type of unescorted work or duties within any location that Criminal Justice Information (CJI) is housed (i.e., any type of computer or computer system/network with direct access to CJI). Therefore, this Security Guard position may require: (1) state of residency and (2) passing and maintaining a Level 2 Background Screening.
Selected candidate must be able to report to work in any one of the Division's locations throughout Broward County. **MUST BE ABLE TO WORK NIGHTS, HOLIDAYS AND WEEKENDS**
General Description
Performs security work in safeguarding County installations and operations.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Possess and maintain a valid Security Guard License - Florida.
Preferences
- Associate's degree or higher with major course work in the security or safety field.
- Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the security or safety field.
- Completion of a certified Crisis Intervention training course or program.
- Completion of a certified Security Investigation course.
- Completion of a certified Crowd Control course or program.
- Completion of a certified course or completion of a recognized program in healthcare security.
- FEMA/DHS on-line security awareness courses.
- At least two (2) years of experience using monitor integrated access control and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems.
- At least two (2) years of experience using security screening equipment (x-ray scanner, magnetometer, and hand-held wand metal detector).
- At least one (1) year of experience in maintaining safety and security in residential healthcare or within a residential care facility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Patrols assigned areas on foot, completes a safety walk through of facility to locate and report any hazardous or unsafe conditions; protects persons, property and information; investigates and reports hazards and unusual or suspicious circumstances to police.
Monitors the security cameras of assigned property as well other County properties; reports emergency problems from employees to the on call supervisor.
Disseminates courteous directional information to patrons upon entry to the facility; acts to protect persons, property and information at Broward County Government Centers and Courthouse locations; ascertains photo identification and verifies identity when necessary; resolves external and internal customer issues.
Supervises security operations, trains subordinate staff; ensures all officers are trained, courteous, professional and able to perform their duties to Broward County and security supervisor standards; reconciles contractor billing (uniform purchase, dry cleaning, supplies, guard services, issued credit card statement); coordinates contract guard schedules for night shifts; enters data into computer to complete payroll for Broward County Security Staff and security contractors.
Supervises and issues employee and contractor identification and access cards; enters data in to computer to create access cards for all employees, visitors, and contractors for multiple Broward County buildings; enters data into computer to complete multiple reports.
Prepares informational updates to security desk officers or all county wide security staff.
Conducts portable fire extinguisher checks/inspections; manages and inspects automated external defibrillator (AED) machines for serviceability.
Performs related work as assigned.
