General Description
Performs skilled water safety work involved in the operation of County aquatics facility/facilities.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks
Requires one (1) year experience as a certified lifeguard and in the implementation of aquatics activities, including six (6) months lead work experience.
Must be currently enrolled in a state licensed school, college, or university, must be at least 16 years of age, and must demonstrate student status for the duration of the appointment.
Licensed through Jeff Ellis & Associates in life saving techniques, water safety instruction, standard first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for adult, child and infant.
Must obtain the Jeff Ellis & Associates license within 30 days of hire.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Information:
All candidates must complete a criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination and drug testing. Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitates lifeguard daily activities, patrols pool deck during hours of operation providing guest services and assist lifeguards as needed.
Performs emergency water rescue techniques to assist persons in distress; performs CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and administers standard first aid when necessary.
Ensures general safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to as it pertains to aquatic facilities.
Assists with aquatics programs and equipment setup for special events.
Mentor lifeguard staff in the daily aquatic facility operations.
Assists with the monitoring of daily lifeguard rotation schedules.
Assist with handling employee and/or guest related issues that are escalated from Student Lifeguards and completing related reports.
Oversees designated first aid area, assisting injured patrons while administering standard first aid as needed.
Assists Parks Supervisor (Aquatics) with the interview and selection process as needed.
Ensures general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of aquatics amenities including water park, pool areas, pump and filtrations systems, restrooms, showers, and concession areas.
Assists with maintaining proper chemical levels of swimming pools.
Assists with the training of Student lifeguards in life-saving techniques when required.
Assists with operational reports related to safety, equipment, and lifeguard training.
Performs related work as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to pool chemicals.
