A new vacancy now exists in Fire Rescue & Emergency Services - Logistics.

This vacancy is primarily open to current BSO employees holding the Property Specialist I classification.  To be considered, eligible BSO employees must apply and have completed their probationary period by the closing date.
  1. Must be a current BSO employee classified as a Property Specialist I who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.

If no applications from BSO employees holding the Property Specialist classification are received, the following candidates will also be considered for the vacancy. 
  1. High school diploma or equivalent. An evaluation of foreign high school diploma may be required.
  2. One (1) year of previous experience and/or training involving inventory and warehouse functions.
  3. Must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver license without any restrictions affecting job performance. Driver license must show current address. All candidates must submit with the application, a Certified Department of Motor Vehicles "entire" driving history.
    • Florida driving histories can be obtained at any courthouse in Broward County. Three (3) year, seven (7) year, and online Florida driving history records will not be accepted.
    • If you have possessed a driver's license in any other state in the past 10 years you will need to submit an "entire" driving history from that state.  For non-Florida driving histories, please contact that state's division of motor vehicles.
    • The search date for all driving histories must be within one month of the date the application for employment is received by the Bureau of Human Resources.  
    • Driving history records must be attached to the online application.
  4. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented on the application.

Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to perform requisition, receipt, storage, issue, collection, maintenance, delivery and inventory of property, uniforms, forms, and supplies as retained by the unit. Employees in this classification perform records maintenance and manual work in the storing, shelving, and distribution of materials, supplies, and other inventoried items. Position is responsible for pickup, delivery, transfer, receipt, and inventorying of supplies and goods as required for the efficient operation of the unit. Performs related work as directed.

Ensures inventory/fixed assets are processed according to State Statutes; issues property control identification numbers and tags; maintains computer database of all tangible property.

Ensures stock is maintained in a state of operational readiness and available for immediate issue; assists during emergency callouts as directed.

Monitors and verifies invoices, packing slips, and condition of goods received; works with vendors to resolve complaints, incorrect orders, pricing, and/or shipment errors.  

Processes requisitions and distributes materials, goods, and supplies as dictated by the nature of the work unit.

Forwards accompanying documentation to respective departments where applicable.

Opens, inspects sorts, arranges, and prepares materials, goods, and supplies for delivery to designated recipient.

Delivers prepared materials, goods, and supplies to designated department, unit, or persons.

Retrieves materials, goods, and supplies from vendors or other entities as directed; returns materials to stock, maintaining accurate recording of such for inventory purposes.

Inventories, stocks, and shelves items according to unit procedures; disposes of property, materials, goods, supplies in accordance with unit policy and procedure.

Collects and palletizes surplus property for the purposes of recycling or auction.

Disposes of tangible property in accordance with State Statutes and agency policy.

Maintains and updates records related to the processing, handling, storage and transfer of property held in the unit in accordance with State Statutes; tracks and reconciles inventory, property and supplies.

May operate an agency vehicle.

Performs related duties as directed.

Depending on functional area of assignment duties and responsibilities may include:
Sewing, tailoring, altering, hemming, mending, repairing, and replacing whole parts and general construction of garments and other items.
 
Inspects, classifies, and determines reparability of garments.
 
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Tasks are performed in a warehouse environment where proper provisions are in place in terms of employee security and protection. Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with routine conditions in a warehouse environment. Some tasks include working around moving parts, light motor equipment, carts, and materials handling where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents.
