The Water and Wastewater Services (WWS) Business Operations Division, Facilities and Grounds Services Section, is seeking a qualified self-motivated, detailed-oriented, and commercially experienced Custodian to perform building and grounds custodial work and assist in performing emergency activities. 

The candidate will primarily be responsible for maintaining WWS building and grounds clean, neat, and in a safe manner that meets organizational standards. Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

•    Performs routine cleaning tasks, such as washing, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, dusting, and removing trash.
•    Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks on areas such as restrooms, locker rooms, sidewalks, windows, and building walls.
•    Performs a variety of light maintenance activities and custodial project work, such as pressure cleaning, replacing dispensers, changing light bulbs, and performing floor treatment.
•    Cleans, organizes, and maintain custodial storage areas.
•    Inspects areas for cleanliness and supplies. Replenishes supplies, as needed.
•    Maintains inventory of a variety of cleaning products, supplies, and equipment.
•    Cuts grass on adjoining lawns; collects litter and sweeps walkways around buildings.
•    Moves and sets up furniture; prepares rooms for scheduled programs and activities.
•    Utilizes a variety of janitorial tools and equipment, and specialty cleaning equipment, such as pressure cleaners, floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, and extension poles.
•    Performs a variety of security related duties in accordance with established security procedures, as needed.
•    Performs related work as assigned.
•    Building surfaces vary in height and difficulty.
•    The position requires the use of cell phone, tablet, and work order tracking software. Candidate must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and perform cleaning from an aerial lift.

Shift will be assigned based on operational needs.

General Description

Performs a variety of custodial and related maintenance duties in an assigned area or building.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) months experience in commercial cleaning, custodial work, related maintenance work or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License.
 
Preferences
  • Vocational Degree in closely related field.
  • Associate’s degree or higher in closely related field.
  • License or Certification in Plumbing or Carpentry
  • Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) Certification or equivalent
  • Possess one of the following Certifications: OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Certification (BPC); IJCSA Chemical Hazards Certification (CHC); IJCSA Carpet Cleaning Certification; IJCSA Customer Service Certification (CSC); IJCSA Biohazard Cleaning Certification (BCC); or IJCSA Mold Inspection & Remediation Services Certification (MIRS)
  • CMI ISSA Advanced Custodial Technician Certification or equivalent
  • At least one (1) year of documented custodial work experience in an industrial/commercial/plant setting.
  • At least one (1) year of documented knowledge and work experience using janitorial services software CompuClean or similar software.
  • At least one (1) year experience using Maximo, DataSplice, or a similar maintenance management software.
  • At least one (1) year of documented knowledge and work experience in one or more of the following areas: occupational exposure, chemical disinfection, biohazard precautions, and Personal Protective Equipment (purposes and types).

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Sweeps, mops, scrubs and buffs floors; cleans walls, ceilings, and woodwork; washes windows.

Cleans rest rooms and replenishes supplies.

Dusts; empties waste baskets; changes light bulbs.

Moves and sets up furniture; prepares rooms for scheduled programs and activities.

Operates and cleans manual elevators.

Cuts grass on adjoining lawns; collects litter and sweeps walks around public buildings.

Cleans offices, break rooms, halls, stairways, and similar areas in order to provide a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for the public and other staff.

Performs a variety of light maintenance activities in order to maintain a safe, clean work environment, facilitate ongoing operations, and maintain day-to-day services.

Maintains inventory of a variety of cleaning products and supplies.

May perform a variety of security related duties in accordance with established security procedures.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals; explosives; violence.
