General Description
Performs specialized licensed practical nursing work for a County substance abuse, behavioral health, or other County mental health program.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Requires two (2) years experience as a licensed practical nurse, including six (6) months experience in substance abuse and/or behavioral health nursing experience.
Special Requirements
Depending upon area of assignment, may be required to work nights/weekends/holidays.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
Preferences
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Substance Abuse/Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Nursing Certification.
Bilingual.
Experience with Medication Addiction Treatment (MAT) including injectables.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Renders comprehensive general and specialized nursing care to program patients with the assistance of other nursing staff and or ancillary staff.
Performs medical, psychiatric and/or substance abuse screening as appropriate to the area of assignment. Renders safe and compassionate practical nursing and health support services to program patients or clients.
Administers medications as prescribed by a physician or other health care provider.
Documents activities in the patient medical record. Ability to observe, evaluate, monitor, and report patient health status.
Monitors medication compliance and response of patient behavior, document observations and treatments appropriately in the patient's medical records.
Monitors client behavior and general health. Reports and records status. May take vital signs and record them on patient charts. Work from the orders directed by a physician and/or mid-level practitioner; note and transcribe orders. Ability to provide personal care assistance to service recipients, clients or patients as needed.
Assesses and evaluates patients on admission and throughout treatment stay; obtains medical and/or substance abuse and psychiatric history and elicits reason for seeking treatment.
Performs physical assessment including vital signs and observation of physical/mental status; performs medical, psychiatric and/or substance abuse screenings.
Renders practical nursing and health support services to program patients; provides personal care assistance to service patients as needed; monitors client behavior and general health; reports and records status.
Assesses and evaluates patients in order to recommend to a clinical superior, a Registered Nurse or Medical Director, of any concerns that may warrant further medical and/or psychiatric intervention or referral to other health care facilities.
Follows agency procedures for control, storage and administration of medications. Transcribes doctors orders.
Interfaces with other internal and external health care providers for coordination of care.
Prepares nursing treatment plans and participates in discharge/aftercare planning with nursing/clinical staff.
Performs related work as assigned.
