Brown and Caldwell has an opportunity for an Water Resources Intern to spend a summer working with our Water Resources and Civil Infrastructure teams to support our Seattle, Washington office. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Detailed Description:

How Will You Make an Impact?

Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team’s projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include:

  • As a student intern, you will perform routine engineering support duties requiring professional training but little or no experience. You may be assigned, under close supervision, to simple engineering data analysis, data assessment, data entry and formatting and organizing information for reports. You may also perform basic CAD or GIS input or modifications, and also provide basic project support such as formatting and distributing meeting notes; project filing, field site visits, and other general support of project engineers. The work may also include engineering design tasks such as providing input to design drawings and specifications, and water resources-related planning and engineering tasks such as GIS analysis, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, planning level cost estimating, and technical writing .

As a Water Resources intern, you can expect your experience to include the following:

  • Provide engineering and technical support on a variety of water resources and infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to stormwater, potable water, wastewater, and environmental water resources
  • Under the supervision of senior staff, perform technical analyses including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, statistical analyses, water quality investigations, GIS mapping, and data management
  • Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
  • Perform data entry, analysis, and visualization. Duties may also include field activities such as site investigations, storm water sampling, and stream flow monitoring.
  • Data collection and documentation. Participate in field work, as needed for projects.
  • Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
  • Adhere to Brown and Caldwell’s quality assurance/quality control process.

Work schedule and location:  Hybrid work schedule: Per week, 4 days in the office at the Seattle, Washington; 1 day remote, occasional fieldwork.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (nine credit hours per semester or 12 credit hours per quarter) seeking a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and should be at minimum a junior in undergraduate school.
  • Candidate experience and/or coursework in water resources management, hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater is preferred.
  • The candidate must be in good academic standing with their university and carry both a cumulative and core curriculum GPA of at least 3.0
  • Candidate must be proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), possess good written and verbal communication skills, and have a valid driver’s license/good driving record.

 

Salary RangeThe anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location C:
Hourly $22.00 – $30.20
