Brown & Brown is seeking a Director of Compliance for our team in Tampa, Florida.
Orchid Underwriters Agency (Orchid), a member of the Brown & Brown National Programs family, is seeking a Service Operations Representative.
The Director of Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Orchid’s compliance and risk management programs. This Leader ensures robust internal controls, oversight and reporting to ensure compliance with all relevant statutes, regulations and industry best practices through the active management of both immediate and potential future compliance risks. The role involves proactive interaction will all business leaders, consistent communication of current and relevant future risks or requirements, while auditing and reporting on processes to press the continual adaptation of compliance strategies to support evolving business needs. Additionally, this leader supports the education of teammates on compliance practices, collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, and provides strategic advice to the leadership team, helping them understand the implications of compliance actions or inactions across the organization.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Compliance Program Management:
- Develop and implement an effective compliance and risk management programs.
- Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them.
- Set plans to manage a compliance violation and follow through remediation efforts.
- Oversee Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) compliance.
- As the business evolves, develop and implement necessary programs and initiatives to enhance compliance and strengthen quality controls, supporting ongoing business needs.
- Risk Monitoring and Auditing:
- Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses.
- Conduct Semi-Annual Self Reviews of each service representative to identify any potential gap in coverage and to monitor for consistency, backlog, and/or overloaded teammate(s). This review also allows for the evaluation of current procedures.
- Conduct State Legislative analysis: research impact of proposed/passed laws to organization and market.
- Consistent monitoring of state and federal regulations, statutes, legislation and market trends to preemptively prepare our business for compliance/risk management changes in our markets.
- Training, Collaboration and Compliance Response:
- Educate and train employees on regulations and industry practices.
- Assist managers with updating checklists, Insurance Operations (IO) procedures manual and other resources, as needed, for all teammates use.
- Collaborate with external auditors and Team Resources when needed.
- Address concerns or questions on legal compliance.
- Address customer complaints. while also evaluating these incidents to assess broader compliance impacts and potential exposures across the organization.
- Identify areas of improvement, collaborate with peers, and provide solutions for IO team to explore.
- Leadership and Strategy:
- Serve as the Insurance Operations Leader to interface between Profit Center and Brown & Brown
- Evaluate business activities to assess compliance risk.
- Attend internal IO meetings when needed.
- Keep abreast of internal standards and business goals.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Law, Finance, or related field or combination of experience.
- Seven plus years’ experience in one or multiple Property & Casualty disciplines, including but not limited to; compliance, legal, underwriting, operations, risk management, or claims.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of legal insurance requirements and controls
- Proven experience in developing and managing compliance and operational processes, protocols and or programs
- Demonstrated ability to handle compliance audits and interactions with regulatory bodies
- Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify risks and propose effective solutions
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor team
- Preferred:
- Possess or acquire and maintain a FL 2-20 insurance license or the equivalent as required by FL state. Non-resident Florida teammates must possess or acquire and maintain the non-Florida resident state equivalent Surplus Lines license.
