Position Summary:
Under supervision, assists with detailed cost accounting processes, computer data entry and other office duties. Attentionto detail and accuracy is a must. Provides customer service responses to contractors, vendors, residents, other government agencies and co-workers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with a wide range of office duties to ensure compliance with highway department requirements such as account coding, data entry and proof reading documents.
Works closely with Accountant to ensure accuracy and quality control.
Assists with department's accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure accuracy of transactions and conformance with county and department policy and procedures.
Answers phone, directs calls, takes messages, and relays information promptly.
Greets public, answers questions directly or routes to appropriate personnel.
Prepares bi-weekly Highway Department staff payroll reports and submits to Human Resources.
Maintains the Highway Fuel Card Dispensing System which includes department fuel billings and fuel withdrawals.
Collects and routes incoming mail, prepares outgoing mail, operates and assists in the maintenance of all office machines.
Processes oversized vehicle moving permits.
Performs clerical duties such as invoicing, generating reports, letters and maintaining files.
Maintains employee files on safety shoes, safety glasses and First Report of Injury.
Checks, maintains and orders office supplies.
Maintains Engineer’s and Highway Department’s schedules and calendars regarding meetings and appointments.
Provides additional clerical support for Engineering.
Assists other personnel with various projects.
Other duties as assigned or apparent.
Regular attendance is required.
Attends meetings and trainings, as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
One year of post-secondary education and one year of related experience
OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and three years' of related experience.
Minimum of one years' training or experience with accounting procedures is required.
Requirements:
Experience with word processing and spreadsheet computer applications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and skill in accounting functions, Excel and computer operation.
Must know and follow County Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards and Governmental Accounting Standards Board Accounting Principles.
Ability to obtain and apply knowledge of state and federal rules and statutes and audit procedures.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral forms.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work under limited supervision with general autonomy in determining how objectives are achieved.
Knowledge of cost accounting procedures and principles and how to account for all areas financially.
Accountant has a wide range of duties and responsibilities.
Attends local and statewide accounting functions, professional associations and county meetings.
Grade 4. Entry hourly wage range of $23.84 to $26.73 DOQ.
