TBD Position : Brown County Schools is seeking a full-time certified school counselor to provide educational, career, and student assistance services to students in grades 9-12 at Brown County High School. The counselor to student ratio is currently 1 / 225. Located in the heart of Nashville Indiana, Brown County High School is about a 30-minute drive from Columbus, Bloomington, Greenwood, or Martinsville. The School Counseling Department includes two full-time certified school counselors, a Career Coach, and a Work-Based Learning Coordinator.

Qualifications : Candidates must hold a Master's Degree in School Counseling and a School Services License from the IDOE. High school counseling experience is preferred, but not required.

Description : As a leader in the Indiana Uplands Region, BCHS hosts two student-run businesses, is actively developing internships and building apprenticeships, and is expanding options for earning dual credit. School Counselors are central to student attainment of the Brown County Schools Graduate Profile competencies. They view high school redesign as critical for students to meet the demands of today's world. The school counselor is part of a comprehensive school counseling team focused on 1) designing modern opportunities and challenges for students, 2) creating smoother transitions to post-secondary education or training for them, and 3) empowering their families to make informed decisions. More specifically : The BCHS School Counselor helps

STUDENTS :

  • Become aware of, explore, plan, and prepare for careers.
  • Develop positive problem solving and decision-making skills through access to strategic instruction.
  • Cope with stress due to situations at home, school, and in the community.
  • Improve interpersonal relationships.
  • Increase academic success.
  • Develop self-esteem and self-discipline.
  • Remove any social-emotional obstacles to learning.

The BCHS School Counselor helps

SCHOOLS :

  • Promote a safe school environment.
  • Utilize available resources to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of all students.
  • Develop and implement policies for the safety of all students (i.e., bullying, LGBTQ).
  • Realize cultural, societal, socio-economic, physical / mental health, and familial factors impact.
  • Coordinate community resources to meet students' needs.
  • Educate faculty and staff in areas such as anti-bullying and positive behavior support planning.
  • As part of the crisis and multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention teams.
  • Through coordination of Section 504 Planning and attendance at selected IEP meetings. The BCHS School Counselor helps

  • Understand how students with special needs can access available programs.
  • Participate effectively in their children's education.
  • Understand and meet their children's social and emotional needs.
  • Utilize school and community resources effectively. The BCHS School Counselor helps the COMMUNITY :
  • Understand school policies, programs, and practice.
  • Develop strategies and resources to adequately meet the needs of students and families.
  • Navigate available resources and collaborate to provide the best possible care for students and families.
