What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Clerk - NEW Zoo position at Brown County?
Performs bookkeeping and clerical duties of a routine nature, which involves maintaining records and processing financial transactions for the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park. Position duties may include, but not limited to, financial transactions in accounts receivable, collections/deposits, group sales receipts, receipt of goods, reconciliation and processing. This work requires independent judgement, initiative, and specialized knowledge in carrying out established procedures, policies, or applying laws and regulations. Responsible for maintaining cash handling policies and procedures for compliance, regulations, and accounting procedures while completing work accurately and on a timely basis.
Reviews, organizes and oversees daily cash handling reconciliation and deposit preparation processes.
Performs ongoing training of guest services staff in cash handling policy, procedures and end of day reporting procedures.
Provides guidance, training, and direction to guest services and Adventure Park staff in cash handling policy adherence and execution of daily related duties.
Performs routine checks to verify cash handling policy staff adherence and compliance.
Prepares business operation reports for monthly meetings including reporting on sales, admission, etc.
Analyzes and interprets information of a complex nature pertaining to the department.
Performs related accounting duties within the Altru POS system, LOGOS financial system and reports.
Obtains information from various sources internally and externally in order to complete forms, documents, records, various services, etc.
Annually updates/maintains job process, procedures, standards, and duties.
Processes checks/cash as needed.
Evaluates cash flow policies as well as theft and security measures.
Ensures adequate cash levels for efficient operation; provides safety procedures to ensure employee safety and cash security during collection, reconciliation and deposit.
Assists in collection, or collects funds from donation boxes, , animal telescopes, penny press, soda vending and additional sites.
Assists in gift shop, restaurant, and campus as needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs related functions as assigned.Education and Experience:
High School diploma, including or supplemented by bookkeeping courses, plus two or more years of responsible accounting experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Strong background with Microsoft Excel preferred.
Knowledge and strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
Knowledge and experience in a customer service/retail environment with cash handling.
Knowledge of general office procedures.
Knowledge of basic data processing techniques and procedures.
Knowledge of bookkeeping and appropriate procedural methods of the department.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer and the required software.
Ability to learn and apply specialized knowledge and skills of the department.
Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
Ability to accept responsibility and to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to maintain the confidential nature of client and business information.
