What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ranger Assistant position at Brown County?
The Assistant Park Ranger will oversee seasonal/part-time parks staff in the performance of daily operations, customer service, and maintenance of their assigned park areas. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in the maintenance and operation of parks, open spaces, buildings, grounds and turf maintenance. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to safely operate heavy equipment, the ability to perform both building and equipment maintenance, work well as a team, and be able to provide exceptional customer service. Brown County Parks has an annual attendance of over 1 million visitors and this candidate will recommend and implement solutions to provide safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing parks facilities. Provide exemplary customer service to all customers and actively participate in maintaining a positive customer service environment.
Provide oversight and guidance over seasonal and part-time help.
Maintains the quality of both indoor and outdoor spaces by removing litter, clearing trails, and the general routine maintenance of parks.
Operates trucks, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, line trimmers, small power equipment, skid steers, snow removal equipment, and other parks related equipment in the repair construction of park facilities and grounds improvements such as trails, day use areas, playgrounds, campgrounds, etc.
Operates winter snow grooming equipment in the maintenance of cross-country ski trails, snowmobile trails, and fat tire bike trails.
Installs and maintains park signs.
Open and closes rental shelters and park gates.
Participates in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, problem solving, and makes minor repairs on motorized equipment, machinery, buildings/HVAC systems, and other parks facilities.
Assist in the collection and accounting of user fees.
Assist in maintaining required records and in the preparation of routine reports.
Participates in the enforcement of parks rules and regulations.
Cleans and sanitizes park restrooms and shelters.
Collects and disposes of garbage and litter.
Mows, edges, trims, weeds planting beds, maintains flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees.
Implements Department and County goals, objectives, and policies; maintains performance standards.Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in, Forestry, Biology or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Education or equivalent experience related to this job description.
Licenses or Certifications:
CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtainIdeal candidate will be a quick and independent learner, and able to adapt to new tasks.
Knowledge of maintenance practices, procedures, and techniques in basic plumbing, carpentry, and electrical operations (construction).
Knowledge of equipment used in parks operations.
Must have exceptionally strong customer service and communication skills.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the workplace.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, other departments, and the general public.
Ability to organize and plan short-term and long-term work in parks.
Knowledge of parks rules and regulations.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
