Brown Federal Services is seeking a skilled Construction Engineer 3 to join our team at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The Construction Engineer 3 will be responsible for ensuring the technical execution of construction and maintenance projects in accordance with Approved Project Documents. The role involves monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities, providing input throughout the project lifecycle—scoping, design, execution, and closeout—to ensure documents are accurate, design adherence is maintained, and as-built configurations are verified. The Construction Engineer 3 will also expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and offering guidance to constructors through approved procedures. This position requires leadership experience and demonstrated expertise in construction engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and review project documents, ensuring full conformance with specifications, codes, and standards.
- Oversee field verifications of construction work, facilitate compliance, and resolve engineering issues.
- Liaise between design engineers and constructors to provide guidance and coordinate technical solutions.
- Develop Material Take Offs and review field material purchase requisitions.
- Suggest, develop, and implement process improvements for project execution.
- Provide oversight for construction and maintenance activities to ensure adherence to drawings, national codes, and standards.
- Lead and mentor junior field engineers and engineering technologists in design review and construction oversight.
- Independently manage multiple projects, tracking progress and resolving issues as they arise.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Expert knowledge of construction engineering principles, field verification techniques, and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and implementing process improvements.
- Advanced skills in problem-solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field.
- Knowledge of technical codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31, NEC, ACI).
- Experience developing and reviewing Material Take Offs for compliance with design specifications.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience, OR
- 14 years of industry experience in construction engineering.
- Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
- Experience with DOE Order 426.2 or familiarity with DOE and LANL Engineering Standards is a plus.
