Environmental Compliance Technician
Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking a Environmental Compliance Technician with strong communication and coordination abilities to support the Environmental Team located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE for the DuPont FS&RE Function.
Basic Job Description:
- Conduct environmental audits and possibly participate in environmental incident investigations.
- Interact with various groups within FS&RE.
- Provide technical expertise to the research community requesting assistance with hazardous waste characterization and proper disposal.
- Perform weekly inspections of assigned 90DAAs, as well as inspecting associated fire extinguishers and emergency phones.
- Ensure that all waste labeling complies with DNREC & EPA requirements, as well as maintain proper housekeeping of 90DAAs.
- Assist with inspection of DuPont 90DAAs at Chestnut Run when necessary (backfill only as needed).
- Assist in 90DAA Contingency Plan updates.
- Network with other environmental team members to provide environmental leadership and guidance.
- Prepare weekly inspection findings and send to Environmental Manager.
- Develop and maintain a basic knowledge of Federal, State and local environmental regulations, including Resource Recovery and Conservation, Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments, Toxic Substances Control Act, Department of Transportation, and related Corporate environmental policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Perform quarterly audits of all remote storage pads at Experimental Station and Chestnut Run Plaza, ensuring all drum pads have adequate secondary containment, signage, and are within listed capacity.
- Inspect indoor and outdoor spill pallets and sumps, checking for any residual liquids that might have accumulated in the secondary containment while also ensuring that the containment itself is in good condition.
- Arrange for the pumping of sumps as needed coordinating with Field Contract Administrator and Environmental Team.
- Ensure monthly inspections are being performed by remote chemical storage owners.
- Maintain backup records of all monthly inspections sent from chemical storage owners.
- Arrange for secondary containment integrity testing.
- Perform audits of Brown & Root drainage log.
- Assist with remote chemical storage pad training of new and current employees or as needed.
- Maintain the Universal Waste battery buckets at the Experimental Station so they are emptied on a yearly basis per DNREC & EPA regulations. Sort and process all miscellaneous batteries that have been placed into Universal Waste buckets for offsite disposal.
- Package batteries for off-site disposal per DOT requirements.
Minimum Skills Required:
- Associate degree in chemistry or related fields or a minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Ability to interpret local, state and federal regulations on environmental management (for example, TSCA, RCRA, DOT)
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, make decisions and/or solve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer systems and software applications such as Excel, Word, Lotus Notes.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in oral and written forms.
- Demonstrated ability to interact/work effectively with a diverse group of people regardless of level or background.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and self-manage own work as well as work of others.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple tasks with professionalism and ethical credibility.
Additional Information:
- Requires travel to Chestnut Run Plaza, another FS&RE site utilizing the fleet vehicle.
- Requires indoor and outdoor work.
