Hours: 8:00AM – 5:00PM, 1 Hour Lunch
Responsible to: Transportation Director and Brown Transit Admin.

Transit Operations Manager:

The Transit Operations Manager has ownership of continual risk mitigation of the Crane Public Transit system. The manager will be tasked with reviewing, improving and evolving policies, and training programs to ensure the business is a leader in the field of public transportation.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Organize and foster a positive safety culture amongst employees.

· Develop and maintain safety monitoring/tracking system

· Develop and administer an equipment and site audit program on a scheduled basis to ensure the company has visibility on all compliance levels.

· Work in coordination with Safety Officer to direct safety training, create classroom and behind-the-wheel training plans and programs. Handle logistics, and documentation; responsible for the oversight, auditing, and direction of records management and administration pertaining to training, safety, and loss matters.

· Update manuals, policies, procedures, and processes with the direction of the Transportation Director. Assist in developing policies.

· Enforcement of the use of all policies pertaining to the safe and efficient operations of transit vehicles.

· Monitor system to ensure passengers are picked up and dropped off in a timely manner.

· Ensure all accidents and incidents are ethically and properly investigated and filed with the Safety Officer and reported to the City of Grand Island and the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

· In coordination with the Safety Officer, conduct evaluations and inspections to mitigate and minimize risk of loss potential; ensure safety inspections are properly scheduled, carried out, monitored, acted upon, and documented.

· Ensure contract compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations; ensure related record-keeping and reporting requirements are met and maintained; provide support in implementing approved recommendations.

· In coordination with the Safety Officer, ensure all safety and related training programs are within compliance with federal guidelines and all employees are properly trained.

· In coordination with the Safety Officer, ensure safety meetings are held on a consistent basis and documentation of the meetings are properly maintained; oversee system safety program to ensure compliance with FTA requirements.

· In coordination with the Safety Officer, direct, oversee, and facilitate all employee Title VI and ADA compliance training.

· Ensure compliance with company policy and requirements with local, state and federal government.

Transit Operations:

· Responsible for scheduling daily routes utilizing Trip Master Software.

· Review applications, conduct interviews, & hire staff as needed with approval from the Transportation Director.

· Conduct annual reviews for all transit employees with the Transportation Director.

· Work with the Maintenance Department to maintain communications between drivers & other staff regarding safe & efficient operation of transit vehicles.

· Continually monitor transit service to ensure most efficient utilization of the service.

· Oversight & daily supervision of transit dispatch office & employees, including dispatch and scheduling.

· Manage & train staff on scheduling software. Attend training & maintain communication with software company regarding updates & additional features. Train & maintain functionality of bus tablets. Create reports when requested & maintain tracking information required by governing officials.

· Develop & incorporate marketing strategies & community outreach.

· Attend pertinent meetings.

· Communicate with all customers equally without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability & possess an awareness of human needs.

· Manage customer complaints & concerns.

· Establish & maintain driver schedules to ensure maximum customer coverage.

· Maintain confidentiality of all information.

· Assist with all other duties as needed i.e. driving, dispatching, scheduling.

Pre-employment Requirements & Employment Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be able to multi-task.

· Must have strong organizational and record-keeping ability.

· Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Must have a high degree of customer service skills.

· Must promote a positive & enthusiastic image

· Must have the ability to establish & maintain an effective working relationship with the general public as well as other agency employees.

· Must keep all agency matters confidential.

· Must possess a valid Nebraska driver’s license.

· Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

· Must pass a pre-employment Department of Motor Vehicles Record Check.

· Must pass a criminal history background check including, but not limited to: National Criminal History, National Sex Offender Registry, Social Security Number Verifications, statewide criminal history check, Child Protective Services, & the statewide Sex Offender Registry.

· Must be able to properly operate the various vehicles in the agency fleet.

· Must have comprehensive knowledge of computers & related programs.

Physical Requirements:

· 75% of work is accomplished indoors & in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.

· Ability to work outdoors and drive vehicles as needed.

· Work is accomplished in an office equipped with a telephone, two-way radio, & computer or in one of the companies vehicles.

· Employee is generally subjected to long periods sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,600.00 - $45,760.00 per year
