Mile 533 Marine Ways, Inc., is seeking a Shipyard Operations Manager. This role is critical in providing expert knowledge and oversight of the company’s daily shipyard operations.
The ideal candidate will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all shipyard activities related to the repair & maintenance of inland barges, commercial vessels, and pleasure craft.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
· Direct all day-to-day shipyard operations to include the repair and maintenance of all vessels and marine equipment under Mile 533’s care & custody
· Monitor timelines, budget, and resources to ensure on time and on budget delivery of services while providing exceptional communication to vessel owner/operator(s)
· Primary point of contact for new and existing customers, contractors, chemists, USCG inspectors and other 3rd party service providers
· Preparation of estimates and generation of invoicing, basic bookkeeping required through Quickbooks
· Responsible for the management of shipyard employees and contractors on commercial and pleasure craft.
· Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and follow all company policies
· Work with Safety Manager and conduct necessary training as required
WORK EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must possess strong verbal and written English communications skills, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of CFRs, basic industry regulations and relevant leadership experience required. Willingness to learn and the ability to independently research laws, rules and regulations required.
- Maritime experience highly preferred but not required, the ideal candidate possesses 5 years of Management experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record due to insurance requirements.
- Must be able to board and work on various vessels/watercraft as required.
- Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
- Must have strong computer skills and an understanding of Microsoft Word/Excel and other potential software programs related to the towing and barge industry.
- Quickbooks experience preferred but not required.
- The ability to work autonomously with personal initiative is vital to the success of this role.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the USA for any USA Employer.
· Heavy machinery (forklift, travel lift) experience preferred, not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Shipyard Operations Manager reports to Mile 533 Marine Way’s office in Aransas Pass, Texas. The standard office hours are Monday – Friday 0700-1600. This position is required to be available after hours as needed in the event of an emergency or if circumstances require.
This position involves work that is sitting, standing, and/or moving from one location to another. While this is a shoreside position, the candidate must be able to board all vessels and barges through various means such as gangways, ramps, ladders, stairs, etc. to complete audits, training, and other routine responsibilities. Individual may be exposed to loud noise (machinery, operating equipment), seasonal weather and exert 20-50 pounds of force frequently.
