As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the due diligence required to assure that contractors and their personnel have accurate information to perform their work each day. In addition, you will work closely with architects and other project managers to keep construction projects safe and running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
With experience and training, you will:
- Serve as a key resource with a good understanding of contract requirements, plans, specifications, and project schedules..
- Establish and maintain clear procedures with design professionals, consultants, owners, and trade partners for information flow, approvals, meetings, reporting, and applications for payment.
- Conduct thorough construction document reviews, identify constructability and quality control (QC) concerns, and resolve issues with design professionals.
- Participate in preparing project studies, material and method recommendations, and cost estimates.
- Develop trade partner Scope of Work (SOW) documents for bid packages and major material/equipment purchases.
- Prepare procurement schedules to ensure timely buyouts and overall construction schedule compliance.
- Prepare and manage project status and financial reports.
- Schedule, conduct, and document job meetings, owner-architect coordination meetings, and more.
- Manage the trade partner change order process, including reviewing estimates, negotiating changes, and obtaining owner approvals.
- Manage project close-out, including securing warranties, guarantees, acceptance of work, trade partner/vendor closeout, final payment, and records retention.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, or similar field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Knowledge of building construction materials, systems and trade practices.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
- Experience with estimating, construction costs, scheduling, purchasing, and engineering principles for various building systems is a plus.
- Proven ability to manage competing demands and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Limited travel required.
