Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. The DSP will work closely with clients to implement care plans and support their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
- Monitor and document patient observations, reporting any changes in behavior or health status to the appropriate personnel.
- Advocate for resident rights and ensure that clients are treated with dignity and respect.
- Provide companionship and engage clients in social activities to enhance their quality of life.
- Assist with mobility and transportation needs, ensuring safety at all times.
- Support clients in hospice care settings when necessary, providing comfort and assistance during difficult times.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment within group home settings.
Skills
- Knowledge of care plans and the ability to follow them accurately.
- Experience in long-term care or caregiving settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with resident rights and advocacy principles.
- Certification in CPR is a plus for ensuring client safety.
- Strong observational skills to monitor patient conditions effectively.
- Understanding of hospice care practices is beneficial for providing compassionate end-of-life support.
- Ability to assist clients with ADLs while promoting their independence.
- Experience working in group home environments is advantageous for this role.
