Direct Support Professional

Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The DSP will work closely with clients to implement care plans and support their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
• Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
• Monitor and document patient observations, reporting any changes in behavior or health status to the appropriate personnel.
• Advocate for resident rights and ensure that clients are treated with dignity and respect.
• Provide companionship and engage clients in social activities to enhance their quality of life.
• Assist with mobility and transportation needs, ensuring safety at all times.
• Support clients in hospice care settings when necessary, providing comfort and assistance during difficult times.
• Maintain a clean and safe living environment within group home settings.

Skills

• Knowledge of care plans and the ability to follow them accurately.
• Experience in long-term care or caregiving settings is preferred.
• Familiarity with resident rights and advocacy principles.
• Certification in CPR is a plus for ensuring client safety.
• Strong observational skills to monitor patient conditions effectively.
• Understanding of hospice care practices is beneficial for providing compassionate end-of-life support.
• Ability to assist clients with ADLs while promoting their independence.
• Experience working in group home environments is advantageous for this role.
