MUST UPLOAD HIGH SCHOOL DIP/GED, TX DRIVERS LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
Required
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required in English. Two (2) years of related experience required; experience may be work in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, community centers, or other similar experiences that would be acceptable to the District
Must possess current certification in: 1) First Aid and Safety, 2) CPR or CPR for the professional, 3) Water Safety Instructor or Water Safety Instructor Aide rating from an approved certification program, , 4) relevant swim instructor experience and a current State of Texas driver's license.
Duties And Responsibilities
Responsible for the instruction of aquatic classes sponsored by the Aquatic Center in the skills of water safety, use and care of swimming activity equipment. Provides supervision of Swimming Instructors and coordination of year-round and/or summer swimming instruction program; provides in-service training and schedules assignments under the direction of the Aquatic Center Coordinator.
Duties include coordinating the BISD Aquatic Center safety program and insuring the safety of students, staff and general public who are using the facilities of the BISD Aquatic Center.
Assists in upholding and enforcing Aquatic Center rules, administration regulations, and state and local board policy and guidelines. Assigns, supervises and evaluates Swimming Instructors. Orients pool staff to special safety needs required for swimming activity equipment. Instructs classes in swimming, water safety, potential dangers, and the proper use of water activity equipment. Plans lesson outlines; keeps ARC records of student progress; prepares final class records and evaluation.
Prepares reports for guardians of student accomplishments and future recommendations; prepares reports of program activities for administrative purposes as needed.
Reviews scheduled activities for Aquatic Center to assure the appropriate scheduling of Swim Instructors, including substitutes.
Assures protection of pool facility and equipment; assures equipment is properly cleaned before use and that pool water quality is not abused. Assures the quality and quantity of supplies and equipment are purchased and available to run the program. Establishes emergency procedures in the pool for open water activities.
Assures that all pool procedures are followed for reporting accidents and notifications.
Reviews pool rules and orients Swimming Instructors to pool requirements and procedures.
Interprets professional standards for Swimming Instructors.
Inspects and assures professional appearance of Swim Instructors.
Schedules in-service training and keeps record of Swim Instructors' certification status.
Assists with the design of the users safety education program; develops written safety guidelines and policies for the swimming instruction program. Provides communication and serves as liaison between Swimming Instructors and management. Assures that all safety codes are followed by cooperation with Lead Lifeguard and Aquatic Center Coordinator to insure Aquatic Center's compliance with state, local and federal codes.
Communicates with the public, students, parents, administrators and other pool users in a tactful, effective and professional manner. Acts properly and swiftly in the event of an incident or emergency.
Knows and enforces all pool rules and policies.
Helps manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed. Uses First Aid knowledge and techniques to give emergency First Aid.
Assists individuals with special needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations as needed.
Maintains physical fitness and skills through scheduled training.
Participates in special events as assigned.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
Maintains confidentiality.
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior as is expected of all District employees.
Maintains professional growth by attending in-service and meetings as requested/required.
Performs other related duties assigned by the Aquatic Center Coordinator.
