Job Description:
The Paving Department Manager at Brubacher Excavating Inc oversees all aspects of milling & paving operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project completion. This role involves managing multiple crews' personnel, equipment, and schedules to meet client expectations.
Safety and Quality Control:
- Ensure employee safety is prioritized in every decision and action.
- Enforce a no-compromise attitude toward unsafe practices with appropriate consequences for violations.
- Maintain quality standards by conducting regular safety meetings and site inspections.
- Work with the trainer to develop training for best paving practices.
Team Leadership:
- Recruit, train, and manage high-performing paving crews.
- Provide coaching and performance evaluations for team members.
- Foster a positive work environment that aligns with company core values.
Operational Management:
- Plan, schedule, and oversee milling & paving operations for timely project completion.
- Supervise crews and subcontractors to ensure proper execution of work.
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate site/utility activities.
- Monitor project progress and adjust schedules as needed.
Financial and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the department budget to optimize resource use.
- Track project costs and ensure profitability.
- Optimize equipment, material, and personnel use.
Client Relations & Business Development:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients on paving matters.
- Collaborate with project managers to deliver seamless project execution.
- Pursue new client opportunities and grow outside sales revenue.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- Minimum 7 years of experience in paving operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
