Job Description

 

Core Competency:  

 

  • Inspect, measure, or test completed metal workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring and testing devices.

 

 

  • Assemble, align, and clamp workpieces into holding fixtures to bond, heat-treat, or solder fabricated metal components.

 

 

  • Set up, operate, or tend welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.

 

 

  • Lay out, fit, or connect parts to be bonded, calculating production measurements, as necessary.

 

 

  • Correct problems by adjusting controls or by stopping machines and opening holding devices.

 

 

  • Give directions to other workers regarding machine set-up and use

 

 

  • Select, position, align, and bolt jigs, holding fixtures, guides, or stops onto machines, using measuring instruments and hand tools.

 

 

  • Mark weld points and positions of components on workpieces, using rules, squares, templates, or scribes.

 

 

  • Transfer components, metal products, or assemblies, using moving equipment.

  • Calipers — Dial calipers; Outside micrometer calipers; Undercut gauges
  • Induction heaters — Heating furnaces
  • Micrometers — Vernier micrometers
  • Mill saw file — Single-cut mill saw files
  • Spot welding machine — Portable welding machines; Resistance welding guns; Resistance welding machines; Spot welding guns
  • Tape measures — Measuring tapes
  • Welding electrode — Welding electrodes
  • Welding or brazing tip cleaner file — Welding tip cleaning files
  • Welding or cutting tip — Welding torch tips
  • Welding robots — Brazing robots; Soldering robots

 

Knowledge:

 

Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

English Language — Basic knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words.

 

SKILLS:

 

Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment or systems.

Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively.

Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

Coordination — Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions

Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications and Education 

  • ·         Some High School  
  • ·         6 months of forklift experience
  • ·         1 year general industrial manufacturing/production experience
  • ·         Able to understand instructions and safety procedures
  • Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection and Hard Hats.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • ·         Vocational or Trade School certificate
  • ·         Experience working with heavy industry
  • OSHA compliance training. 
  • English proficiency. Able to read and write English
  • Medical Assessment – ability to pass a post-offer physical examination.
  • No alcohol and substance abuse.

 

In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the aforementioned knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered at the Company’s discretion.

  • ·         Must be able to work occasional overtime to meet operational deadlines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

 The USES category for this position is moderate to heavy.  While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, as well as talk and hear.  Will frequently manipulate parts weighing up to 50 lbs. with the aid of material handling equipment and/or assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.  Requires manual dexterity and continued use of both hands, use of hand tools, power tools and related equipment.  Must be able to bend or twist their body and repeating the same movements during their shift.  Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods at a time. 

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to working plant machinery, overhead machinery and heavy moving parts.  Work environment is an indoor industrial manufacturing plant working in close proximity to hot presses, with open gas burners, ovens, and heated steel stock/parts.     The temperature in work area can possibly exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the work year in various areas of the plant.  Sharp steel filings and shaving can be found in most work areas.  Adequate protective gear is required at all times to avoid injury.  Moderate-to-high noise is constant throughout the shift.
