GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under weekly supervision, the Access to Achievement Coordinator is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, supervision, evaluation and continual improvement of the intra-college support system. Will be the primary contact for students who self-report/disclose an IDD diagnosis. Advocates for the inclusion of students with IDD in all aspects of college and campus life. Present options based on student interests using written materials, tours, meetings with program/department heads. These options might include college and career readiness programs, short-term workforce development programs, curriculum programs, and resources. The position would assist with development of career pathways as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Interview student and/or parents to establish interests and goals.
· Develop person-centered plan and complete required documentation of plan.
· Guide student in application process, if necessary, and refer to enrollment manager/student services.
· Refer to other services as determined appropriate (Career Counselor, Disabilities Coordinator, Human Resources Development, Tutoring, Mental Health Services).
· Schedule bi-weekly follow-up and check-in with student for entirety of student’s enrollment in college courses.
· Follow-up with instructors on a regular basis regarding student progress.
· Inform students of campus events, opportunities, and activities providing a personal invitation to students to participate in these activities.
· Local marketing and outreach responsibilities as determined by local college (area school districts, employers, community agencies).
· Recruitment of students.
· Track student outcomes as determined by required reporting to NCCCS and other outcomes as determined locally.
· Create and submit reports to the NCCCS biannually.
· Partner student with peer mentor, if desired by student and/or parent.
· Continue to track and follow-up with students for six-months after separation from college services/programs.
· Liaison with workforce development staff, community agencies, and local employers to assist in pursuit of employment for students.
· Organize and coordinate implementation team efforts.
· Participate in all professional development and other meetings as required by NCCCS.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education or related field.
· Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral written communication. Ability to read, analyzes, and intercept general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
· North Carolina Community College experience.
