What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Learner Success/Career Coach position at Brunswick Community College?
General Function
Under the supervision of the Director of Learning Resources and Academic Support Services, the Adult Learner Success Coach supports the college’s student success initiatives by providing success coaching, advising, and career services to students as they enroll at the college, fulfill career and education goals, and transition onward into the workforce or institutions of higher education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites
- Serve as an Adult Learner Success/Career Coach to mentor, counsel, and provide outreach services to students in choosing a program of study, developing career, success, and academic plans
- Maintain current knowledge of academic and continuing education programs to guide students in making informed career, education, and life decisions
- Perform intake advising appointments for adult learners and assist faculty advisors
- Work closely with adult students and assigned academic advisor to provide an extra layer of support to help student overcome any barrier to their success
- Provide academic support to student in need of schedule changes, program changes, and additional resources for success
- Follow a prescribed communication plan to relay critical information to students at key points in the semester
- Document student communications and outcomes within the college’s CRM/Student Success & Engagement system
- Assist students in creating resumes, preparing for job interviews, and recommending effective job-searching techniques
- Assist students with the use of the college’s Career Coach Software system, to identify career paths and employment resources, linking college programs and industry credentials to the job market.
- Serve as the liaison between students/employers to set up Career Coach accounts, post job openings, and locate job opportunities
- Create recorded and live presentations for student use of Career Coach software
- Lead the College’s annual job fair event, and participate in campus career-related events such as Manufacturing Day
- Maintain Career Center space, including hours of operation, signage and marketing, maintenance, and IT requests
- Maintain knowledge of deadlines and general college policies/protocols that relate to financial aid, tuition payment, testing, orientation, class registration, add/drop, and withdrawal processes to assist students in making informed decisions
- Participate in college-wide events and activities to promote the growth of the college
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain knowledge of current trends in student success and retention
- Serve on committees related to academic support, advising, and student success as needed
- Perform other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Two years of experience in a higher education setting
- Skill in establishing and maintaining a student-centered and effective working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and the public; commitment to a team-building approach
- Ability to think “outside of the box” and embrace change
- Ability to communicate effectively, skilled in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing
- Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and statistical reporting
Preferred Requirements
- Master’s Degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Experience working with adult student populations.
