About this Opportunity
Brunswick County is currently accepting applications for a Delinquent Tax Specialist to join our Tax Department. TheDelinquent Tax Specialist performs a variety of standardized clerical and customer service work associated with the collection of County taxes. Work involves :
- Collecting taxes and fees over the counter (in person) and by mail.
- Considerable data entry, including recording and posting tax payments.
- Computing penalty charges and partial tax payments.
- Generating foreclosures, garnishments, and attachments as needed.
- Preparing delinquent collection letters.
- Calculating and providing tax amounts and preparing tax certifications and providing tax information to attorneys, Realtors, mortgage companies, and others as requested.
- Issuing mobile home moving permits.
- Responding to requests and answering questions from County taxpayers.
- Assists at the License Plate Agency as needed.
Work requires the Delinquent Tax Specialist to display independent judgment while working firmly and effectively with the public while performing a variety of tax collection activities. If you are a customer-focused individual with excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills who can show tact, courtesy, and firmness in frequent contact with taxpayers and the general public, we'd love to talk to you! The Delinquent Tax Specialist reports directly to the Deputy or Assistant Tax Collector.
Education and Experience
Two (2) years of experience in collections (preferably in a tax-related field); OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, telephones, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
