The Part Time Program Assistant - Camp Counselor plans, coordinates, implements and supervises safe and structured activities for summer camp participants ages 5-11. The activities must ensure safety, fun, skill development and personal development for each individual in the group. This position is responsible for assisting in the planning, leading, instructing and demonstrating of all activities in the summer camp program; assists in special programs and for enforcing all program rules and regulations; responsible in the care, supervision and mentoring of participants as well as teaching socialization skills and the implementation of the summer camp curriculum; ability to provide effective, non-punitive guidance and concern for each participant as well as to the participant group as a whole; ability to meet developmental needs of children and to serve as a positive role model; interacts with parents and answers general questions; transports and/or accompanies participants on educational and recreational trips. This position performs related tasks as required and must exercise tact and courtesy in frequent contact with community, establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment. The Camp Counselor must be able to work independently and make appropriate decisions based on the Parks & Recreation Department’s policies.Camp operates June-August from 8:15am-5:15pm during the week with some additional training dates. Dates and times will vary.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
