About this Opportunity
Brunswick County is seeking a Public Health Nurse I to join a dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to ensuring the delivery of health services to the public. In this role, the primary focus is immunizations, child health, and communicable disease. The work involves public health services that are provided in clinics and through outreach activities. This includes clinic responsibilities, hands on care, quality of care for patients, and providing other related duties as needed.
As a Public Health Nurse I, you must exercises considerable tact, courtesy, discretion, firmness, and fairness in contact with the public; possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, which are essential to effectively interact with internal and external customers to promote public health. You must also be able to effectively work with a diverse population.
This position is subject to the usual hazards associated with nursing work, including potential exposure to communicable diseases and bloodborne pathogens. The schedule occasionally includes evenings, weekends, and emergency response duties (such as staffing county shelters).
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or graduation from an accredited school of nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess an RN License from the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
- CPR Certification required.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment, scales, sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, etc. Must be able to exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
