Position Purpose :

This role will support the Engineering and Operations Divisions ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electrical distribution system by performing routine inspections, assisting with maintenance, and ensuring compliance with industry and BEMC standards.

Job duties include :

Inspections and Maintenance

  • Perform regular inspections (both thermal and standard) on all distribution assets per BEMC's inspection guidelines.
  • Perform regular thermal inspections on all substation and transmission assets per BEMC's inspection guidelines.
  • Detect faulty operations or materials and report any unusual conditions to the appropriate department heads and the Distribution Asset Supervisor.
  • Communicate with relevant departments regarding any issues or maintenance requirements found during inspections.
  • Assist the Distribution Asset Technician with inspections of Downline Distribution IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) as needed.
  • Keep up to date on thermal imaging devices and software, performing infrared inspections as needed.
  • Maintain certification in Thermology technology through BEMC's provider.
  • Assist with contractor inspections, including inspection creation, contractor field support, post-inspection processing, and other relevant duties.
  • Review inspection data to assess and prioritize repairs, follow-ups, and future maintenance needs.
  • Ensure all inspection data is accurate and properly entered into BEMC's asset and inspection management software.
  • Communicate all mapping discrepancies found with the GIS Department for correction.

Knowledge and Technical Expertise

  • Possess and maintain knowledge of electrical utility infrastructure, fundamental electrical principles, and work processes.
  • Stay informed on electrical / mechanical tagging, labeling standards, and numbering systems.
  • Ensure thorough understanding of Distribution lines, Substation feeds, Delivery Points, and Transmission lines.
  • Stay knowledgeable about RUS specifications and NESC guidelines, including sizing transformers and proper application of electrical apparatus.
  • Ensure the Cooperative's distribution system is maintained according to RUS specifications and engineering standards. Monitor for hazardous conditions or other conditions that could cause power failure.
  • Understand and follow work order procedures and processes.
  • Document critical information related to asset conditions, and communicate to appropriate department heads, including the Distribution Design Team for work order generation
  • Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with BEMC safety rules and maintain safe work practices.
  • Keep the supervisor informed of progress, changes in schedules, or challenges encountered.
  • Maintain current First Aid & CPR certifications.
  • Ensure that assigned vehicles and tools are in good working condition, reporting any issues promptly.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Be available for after-hours work, including emergency storm situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Preferred Experience :

    5 years of Operations experience at an Electric Utility.

    2 years of experience in inspection management and thermal imaging.
