Drill Rig Operator

Position Summary

The Drill Rig Operator is responsible for operating drilling rigs and related equipment to perform soil and groundwater sampling at various project locations. Reporting to the Drilling Supervisor, the Drill Rig Operator ensures that all drilling activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project expectations. This role requires technical expertise, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

· Operate various drilling rigs, including Geoprobes, Air Rotary, and Sonic, to perform sampling and remediation tasks.

· Conduct strenuous physical tasks such as soil and groundwater sample collection, rig operation, waste removal, and related activities.

· Ensure compliance with safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and site-specific safety plans, including the use of required protective equipment.

· Drive and operate vehicles/trailers in compliance with DOT regulations.

· Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on drilling rigs and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.

· Complete and submit detailed paperwork, including work logs, drilling records, time records, and maintenance reports, in a timely manner.

· Travel up to 50%, including driving company vehicles to project locations.

Competencies

· Proficient in various drilling methods, including direct push, auger, air/mud rotary, and sonic techniques.

· Mechanical aptitude for diagnosing and repairing issues with diesel engines and hydraulic systems.

· Strong understanding of DOT laws and regulations regarding vehicle and trailer operation.

· Attention to detail for accurate completion of project documentation.

· Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow safety protocols.

· Ability to work collaboratively with team members and adapt to diverse project requirements.

Position Type and Work Hours

· Full-time position with flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays as required.

· Frequent out-of-town assignments are required.

Required Education and Experience

· High School Diploma or GED.

· Experience in operating drilling rigs and performing drilling-related tasks.

· Knowledge of environmental sampling and remediation practices.

Preferred Education and Experience

· 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is strongly preferred.

· Experience operating heavy equipment, such as skid loaders or mini-excavators.

· Familiarity with soil types and basic drilling techniques

Work Environment

· Work is conducted in various outdoor environments, often in extreme weather conditions.

· Exposure to dust, fumes, hazardous materials, noise, and harsh conditions is possible.

· Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment is required.

· Work may involve confined spaces, heights, and other challenging conditions.

Physical Demands

· Regularly required to stand, walk, grip, handle, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

· Physical activity includes prolonged periods of standing and walking.

· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Drilling Supervisor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $38.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 60 per week

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• Overtime
• Weekends as needed
