The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for a Full Time Emergency Management Agency Specialist in our Emergency Management Agency Department.

This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing emergency management strategies and response plans to ensure the safety and resilience of the community, organization, or agency. The Emergency Management Agency Specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts for various emergency situations, such as natural disasters, public health crises, and other critical incidents.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Emergency Planning : Develop and update emergency response plans, procedures, and protocols. Ensure plans address all potential hazards and risks, including natural, technological, and human-caused events.
  • Risk Assessment : Conduct hazard assessments, vulnerability analysis, and risk evaluations to identify potential threats and areas for improvement in emergency preparedness.
  • Training and Drills : Plan, organize, and conduct training exercises and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and ensure personnel are prepared for a wide range of emergencies.
  • Emergency Response : Serve as a key player in the activation of emergency response efforts, providing coordination and support to emergency operations centers (EOCs) and field teams during an incident or disaster.
  • Resource Coordination : Ensure the availability of necessary resources, equipment, and personnel to support emergency response efforts. Manage inventories of emergency supplies and equipment.
  • Public Communication : Collaborate with public information officers to disseminate emergency information to the community and the public in an effective, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Post-Incident Recovery : Assist in post-incident assessments and recovery efforts. Provide support for damage assessments, resource allocation, and documentation for recovery funding.
  • Collaboration & Partnerships : Work closely with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as non-profit organizations and private sector partners, to foster effective emergency management coordination.
  • Compliance & Reporting : Ensure compliance with emergency management laws, regulations, and standards. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and reports related to all emergency management activities.

Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, or a related field.
  • Experience : Minimum of 3 years of experience in emergency management, disaster response, or related fields.
  • Certifications : FEMA or other recognized emergency management certifications (such as Incident Command System (ICS) training) are preferred.
  • Skills :
  • Strong knowledge of emergency management principles, practices, and protocols.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations and make critical decisions.
  • Proficiency with emergency management software and technology.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • The ability to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, during emergencies.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for training, drills, and emergency response efforts.
  • Ability to lift and carry emergency supplies and equipment, as needed.
