What are the responsibilities and job description for the MECHANIC position at Bryan County?
This position is to perform skilled and semi-skilled repairs and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks and other gasoline and diesel equipment.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs skilled maintenance work including the repair, adjustment, and maintenance of motor vehicles and gasoline and diesel-powered construction equipment; changes oil, filters, and transmission fluid.
Perform general overhaul work on internal combustion engines and all equipment components and accessories.
Performs tune-ups of gasoline and diesel motors, adjusting timing mechanisms, carburetors, and fuel and ignition systems; replaces spark plugs and distributor caps.
Adjust and realigns brakes; maintains hydraulic systems and electrical systems; assists in recharging and repairing air conditioning systems.
Repair power mowers, air compressors and pneumatic accessories, pumps and related machinery, and small equipment.
Installs and repairs vehicle scanners and radios; welds materials as needed; repairs and / or replaces tires.
Picks up parts and supplies; maintains neatness and cleanliness of shop; cleans wash rack, changes fuel filter, and hose on steam cleaner.
Assist with debris pick-up along roadways, posts road closing signs, cuts grass around shop, and performs other similar duties.
Work is performed under direct supervision of the Maintenance Shop Superintendent or assigned supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation and review of repairs performed.
Punctuality and attendance are essential.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required; additional vocational training in automotive and engine repair preferred; one year of experience as automotive or engine mechanic, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
