Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Knowledge of laws relating to operation of school transportation Knowledge of laws and requirements for routing and transportation of special needs students
- Possess Texas Class B CDL with P and S endorsement
- TEA Bus Driver Certification
- Ability to manage budget and supervise personnel
- Ability to work successfully with adults in a learning environment
- Technology skills in database, word processing, spreadsheet and school bus routing software
Experience: Three years of administrative experience in school transportation preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Align the major functions of the assignment with district goals such that all students succeed.
1. Ensure that transportation operations are supportive of the instructional goals of the district.
2. Demonstrate support for district’s student management policies.
3. Facilitate effective communication with parents, staff, and school personnel.
4. Use skills to resolve conflicts with district administrators, teachers, staff, and parents.
5. Develop the long-range plan for transportation capital and personnel budgetary needs.
6. Submit annual budget to Executive Director.
7. Achieve cost-effective practices and demonstrates responsible fiscal control over program budget.
8. Systematically monitor the effectiveness of transportation programs and services.
9. Develop job descriptions for transportation personnel and oversee filling of vacancies.
10. Implement and direct training program for drivers, special education monitors, and all transportation staff.
11. Supervise evaluation of all drivers.
12. Conduct annual employee evaluations and make sound recommendations for employment.
13. Direct ongoing program to ensure drivers are using proper student management skills.
14. Implement procedures that maintain safety standards in compliance with state, federal laws and insurance regulations.
15. Establish a system to maintain transportation records and submit reports when required.
16. Promote use of computerized routing program to efficiently design and implement bus routes and schedules within boundary areas.
17. Direct a process to communicate routes to drivers and follow-up to ensure route accuracy.
18. Develop system to take requests for extracurricular trips and to develop the most efficient means of filling those requests.
19. Assist in planning attendance zones and transportation routes for new schools.
20. Coordinate investigation of district vehicle accidents and monitor post-accident remediation.
21. Advise the Superintendent on road and weather conditions for school closing decision during inclement weather.
22. Respond to after-hours calls as needed.
23. Strive for professional growth and development through participation in TAPT, TASBO, or other professional organizations.
24. Stay knowledgeable of school transportation trends and make recommendations for improvements in technology and operations based on this information.
25. Drive a school bus when necessary.
26. Perform other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors: Maintain emotional control and present positive image for Bryan ISD during stressful situations. Maintain positive attitude when dealing with customers. Use available resources to define issues and solve problems. Frequent district travel and occasional statewide travel. Prolonged and irregular work hours with some bending, stooping, crawling, climbing, and walking. Some exposure to outdoor and mechanic shop conditions. Equipment Used: PC computer with word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software, audio-visual presentation equipment, fax and other office equipment, two-way radio and cell phone.

Pay: $81,758.00 - $118,551.00 per year
