Primary Purpose: Supervise, coach, develop, and observe all aspects of the daily kitchen operations to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal child nutrition policies and regulations and to ensure that policies and procedures established by the School Nutrition Department are implemented and followed. Acts as a liaison between the School Nutrition Central Office and school administrators. This position will supervise assigned campuses to assess and provide support with on and off-site technical assistance and training to maintain compliance. Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree preferred in Food and Nutrition, Business Management, Hospitality Management, or other nutritional or business field.
In lieu of degree, five years food service management in K-12 school nutrition or a position with similar work responsibilities required
· ServSafe Certification or equivalent required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Must have valid driver’s license to travel to remote sites within the district
· Demonstrate proficiency in using computer applications relevant to food service operations.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to provide technical assistance and educational training for school nutrition managers and other kitchen employees; demonstrating an ability to work with all levels of personnel
· Utilizes effective and appropriate human relations skills with all students, staff, parents, district level personnel, and vendors
· Ability to adapt quickly and successfully to changes and multi-task in a fast-paced environment; deliver quality results in a timely manner.
· Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality, exercise sound judgement and discretion.
· Strong organizational skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Ensure all school cafeterias follow federal, state and local policies, practices, and procedures of the NSLP, SBP, SSO and CACFP programs and Bryan Independent School District.
2. Supervise campus managers in purchasing, receiving, inventory control, and financial management.
3. Visit campus kitchens on a regular basis and document visitations, assuring quality service and operations in all secondary units and compliance with state and local standards for sanitation, safety, food storage and preparation
4. Conduct regular meal assessments, safety and sanitation inspections at assigned campuses
5. Assist in meal production, service and clean-up if an emergency arises. Fill in for managers as needed.
6. Perform the annual on-site and audit reviews at assigned campuses as required by federal regulation.
7. Evaluate kitchen operations—including workflow, product quality, staffing, and financial performance—and develop corrective action plans as needed.
8. Provide technical assistance to cafeteria managers and staff to achieve compliance with federal, state, local and district standards.
9. Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of operational processors that increase productivity and customer satisfaction.
10. Utilize data to evaluate participation, quality, effectiveness, staffing, productivity, and cost. Develop and implement action plans to correct identified campus deficiencies.
11. Assist with menu planning software to include production planning, printing of recipes, ordering food and supplies, posting daily production numbers, withdrawing menu items from inventory and conducting quarterly physical inventories.
12. Responsible for investigating on the job injuries and providing on the job training to staff and kitchens that have on the job injuries.
13. Resolve complex issues and emergency situations concerning personnel, parents, menus, and safety.
14. Facilitate employee training programs, including hands-on training and new employee orientation.
15. Support managers in the area of personnel management, work scheduling, employee training, and evaluations.
16. Promote, coach, and develop employee growth, efficiency, morale and teamwork
17. Supervise, coach, and evaluate employee performance, documenting mid-year and year-end evaluations, and initiating growth plans or disciplinary actions as needed.
18. Responsible for monitoring and tracking all comp time accumulated and used by cafeteria managers at assigned campuses, providing technical assistance to resolve use of overtime as a time management solution.
19. Interview substitutes, coordinate new employee orientation and training program and assist the Assistant Director with the employee hiring, placement and evaluation process
20. Assist in developing and implementing training programs for school nutrition staff and manager trainees
21. Build and maintain positive relationships with district leadership, school staff, and all BISD departments, supporting SNS initiatives and promoting employee morale, growth, and teamwork.
22. Maintain and apply knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, including USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture policies relevant to Bryan ISD School Nutrition Services (SNS).
23. Meet annual professional standards for school nutrition professionals by attending required workshops, training, and seminars to stay current on policies and procedures.
24. Collaborate with other SNS staff to implement marketing, promotion, and training initiatives.
25. Monitor the summer feeding program
26. Assist in the development and testing of new recipes and products.
27. Participate in biweekly administrative meetings, monthly managers’ meetings, and scheduled staff meetings.
28. Demonstrate a willingness and positive attitude toward performing other duties as assigned.
29. Demonstrate on a daily basis support, loyalty, and a positive attitude toward BISD objectives.
30. Perform any other assigned duties necessary for the effective and efficient operations of the Bryan School Nutrition Services department.
Office Equipment Used:
Working knowledge of office computer, Microsoft office applications, Skyward Business software, Linq Connect/Titan cafeteria software, multi-line telephone, fax machine, 10- key, point-of-sale touchscreens (line computers), cafeteria keypads/scanner, printers, and copier.
Duties will require flexibility of hours:
75% Implementation and compliance of the school nutrition operation, quality control of food production, and special functions.
15% Manager and employee training
10% Clerical duties
Mental/Physical Demands:
The ideal candidate must think clearly and maintain composure in stressful situations with frequent interruptions, delivering excellent customer service. Success in this role requires thriving in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple deadlines and tasks simultaneously. The position involves both a kitchen and an office setting with frequent standing and walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
