Responsibilities
- Surgical First Assistants assist physicians in surgery and may perform specific surgical tasks under professional supervision.
- Surgical tasks include opening and closing surgical sites, exposing the surgical site, harvesting grafts, dissecting tissue, removing tissue, implanting devices, and altering tissues.
- Perform CST role when not utilized in the First Assistant Role.
Qualifications
- Current Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or eligible for Certification.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification.
- Must be eligible for credentialing through Medical Staff.
- Previous CST experience preferable two years.
- Pervious CST-FA experience preferable a minimum of 2 years Cardio-Vascular.
- Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist School.
- Current CST certification.
- New employees who have completed and can document first assistant training or have maintained a current national First Assistant (FA) certification, may work as a ST/FA following BSA policies and protocols.
