We are seeking " Lead Construction Inspector " for one of our esteemed clients based at Staunton District, VA and your experience aligns exceptionally well with what they are.
This role plays a key part in ensuring the quality and compliance of highway construction and maintenance projects. Under the supervision of senior staff, you will oversee all project phases, ensuring adherence to plans, specifications, and industry standards to provide a safe and efficient transportation system.
Key Responsibilities:
· Monitor contractor work to ensure quality control and compliance with roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance contracts.
· Inspect excavation, drainage, road surfaces, and structural components, documenting daily progress and contractor performance.
· Schedule and coordinate inspections with contractors and agency personnel.
· Identify and document non-compliant work and recommend necessary corrections.
· Conduct field measurements and material tests to ensure compliance with specifications.
· Review plans, grades, elevations, and dimensions using survey and engineering equipment.
· Oversee erosion control, traffic management, and work zone safety enforcement.
· Recommend adjustments to construction plans based on field conditions.
· Maintain detailed project records, including daily reports, material logs, as-built plans, and payment documentation.
· Ensure contractor adherence to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements.
· Serve as the primary inspector on complex projects requiring extensive coordination with property owners, utilities, and government agencies.
· Lead inspection teams as needed, ensuring effective communication and documentation.
· Participate in project-related meetings and communicate with stakeholders, contractors, and the general public.
Qualifications & Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework or an associate/bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
· 7-10 years of experience in highway construction inspection.
· Familiarity with AWP and ProjectWise.
· Strong knowledge of VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, and construction manuals.
· Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications and apply mathematical principles for field adjustments.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
· Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and ability to pass pre-employment screening.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Physical & Work Environment:
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures, uneven terrain, and active construction zones.
· Full-time role (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) with occasional night or weekend work based on project schedules. Overtime may be required based on deadlines.
