The Nursing Home Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual meal plans. The cook will ensure all food is prepared in a safe and sanitary manner while maintaining the highest standards of quality and presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals following established menus, recipes, and dietary requirements.
- Ensure meals meet the nutritional needs of residents with consideration for specific dietary restrictions (e.g., diabetic, low-sodium, or pureed diets).
- Adhere to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety regulations.
- Assist in meal planning and menu adjustments based on resident preferences and dietary needs.
- Collaborate with the dietary team to ensure meal service is timely and efficient.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure cleanliness and sanitation of all food preparation and serving areas.
- Monitor food inventory, assist with ordering supplies, and manage food storage to minimize waste.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to infection control and resident safety.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a healthcare, nursing home, or institutional kitchen preferred.
- Knowledge of nutrition, dietary guidelines, and food safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- ServSafe Certification or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Capacity to work in a hot, humid kitchen environment.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving food preparation and cleaning.
